Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
Put a new track in my 05 Vector ER couple of weeks ago. Ever since then, SOMETIMES when I take it out of reverse then give it gas there's a pretty good CLUNK from the drivetrain, Doesn't do it all the time.

I'm 95% sure I got everything back together right and I didn't mess with the reverse linkage. Could the chain be too loose or tight? I adjusted the chain with the "finger tight then back off 1/2 turn" method.

Any ideas?

I just read Irv's post in the General Discussion forum. The clunk I'm getting is loud and has never been there before.

:rocks:

Have you double checked your track tension and alignment?
Back chain tensioner 1/4 turn not 1/2.

Alignment is good and track is super loose...need to tighten just a bit.

Going to pull her into the garage and look things over.

Thinking about doing the same to mine as well. :o|

Decided to wait a few days. -18F here tonight but upper 20's in a couple of days. Trails are closed and no trip so I might as well wait.

This is the 2nd time I've had the chaincase apart and this didn't happen the first time. I'm trying to think of what I might have put together incorrectly! I'm not sure the chaincase over would go on of things weren't just right.

There's that little spring that goes in the hole of the one gear and pushed up against the other gear....I know the spring is there.

Hopefully I just have the chain too tight. :o|

Irv - did you do something mechanically on your sled or did the clunk just start out of no where?

I THINK I might have the chain too tight. Tried to move the brake rotor and it moves back n forth about 1" total.

I never did anything to it 4stroke, just changed the oil.

I haven't gotten around to looking at it yet but hope to sometime today.

I just read your post above, I will see how much my rotor moves and let you know.

Good luck ;)!

Before I begin, the 1 inch of movement in my brake rotor is slop between the rotor and jackshaft.

Checked things out. Chain tension was OK. The vertical reverse linkage needed adjustment. There seems to be a fine line between proper adjustment and the reverse arm not disengaging cleanly.

The Vector shop manual's adjustment process is a good starting point, but no the end all in the case of my sled.

We'll see how things go when the sled gets on the trail.....next week.

What are you saying in the bold?

I checked mine today, seemed proper and had the right level of oil.

I reversed and forwarded it a few times and could not get it to clunk again? :dunno: (I wasn't hammering on it, just easying into the throttle and no clunk at all)

If I did it right, the CLUNK got worse when I adjusted it per the manual. I went the other way and now it's gone. Also, my parking brake may have been too tight.

I'm going ice fishing today (oh boy..groan) and will be back into the sled tonight. Have to re-check a bunch of things.
