Hi guys. I have a 1996 V-Max 600 XT that I used to run before getting my RX1 two years ago. I bought the V-Max with a ckutch kit already in it. Not sure what brand, both springs are all white, no marks, helix appears to be stock?? Anyway, the sled turns 7000 plus all the time, no matter what speed or throttle input you give it. Back shifts at very little throttle and RPM's climb right up even on level ground. This actually worked fine when I was driving it as I ride pretty aggressively anyway, but my 9 year old son has taken it over, and it seems like a waste of gas and engine life to crank the thing taht much just to move his 75 lb body. So here's my question. I have stock part numbers for the primary and secondary from the Yammi web site. They are, Primary: 90501-525J8-00, and Secondary: 90508-556A2-00. Anyone know what springs will work for the stock V-Max clutch? Is it the short cover cluth the aftermarket books refer too? I'd like to go a little milder then stock, say a 3000 rpm engagement, 6000 shiftout. Any ideas. There are optional stock springs for the V-Max but I don't know what the part numbers mean in terms of spring weight, force, etc. Thanks a bunch guys, my dealer didn't have a clue?? Imagine

your dealer can get you a clutching chart( poster size) that lists all the springs and their comp./ preload rates. not positive on this, but you should be able to switch primary covers from short to tall that would give you the option to run any yamaha spring.

Maxx Perf has teh short cover springs. Is this what I have, the SHORT cover I mean? I know the RX1 is the tall, not sure about the V-Max. Thanks for the help though.

just look in the tech area on ty forums, a bunch of stock stuff in there. i would not want it to shift at 6000, make it shift propper rpm but with stock clutching it wont get there till you pin it
