Clutch Maintenance??

Thanks for all the replies!!! This is the sort of info I'm looking for. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined and looking at the clutches they don't look too complicated. Especially as I'm not looking for more performance.

Niko - I'm pretty sure you can get a clutch puller from Ulmer for $30.00. As I just ordered the front bushing kit from them, I may have them throw in a clutch puller.

First question: What is the primary and which is the secondary? I would think the primary comes off the engine and goes to the secondary. Am I right???

Any other tips are welcome!!!

yes that is correct

Do you mean Scott from Xmas Yamaha, were did he go after they folded. I heard they offered it to the cat guys in Wetmore ,but they did not have the room for another line.

I remove my primary clutch at least once a year, remove the face plate and weights, spring, etc. and inspect all bushing, and then clean everything with hot water and Simple Green (for that nice, biodegradable sassafras scent). If my wife is away sometimes I'll even run the whole clutch assembly (minus the weights and spring) through the diswasher for a sparkling clean finish. You can also take a scouring pad to the inner clutch faces to deglaze them and remove belt residue.

To the top for clutch maintenance.

I am also doing clutch maintenance this year and need help on what to do. Looks like I just need to disassemble the clutch and check things for wear. I think I will defiantly have to replace the secondary clutch buttons. I have 9400 miles. Anybody know of cheaper places to get clutch parts other than Yamaha. Yamaha wants 20$ a piece for bushings and 12$ a piece for the plastic clutch buttons.
I am going to try to do some research and see If I can get these parts cheaper from a place like parts unlimited.

there are cheaper buttons for the secondary, but i don't recommend them. they wear very fast or break in half. considering the 9400 miles on the original parts, spend the money to replace them.
