Clutch noise?????

I have two rattling nytros, and one brand new nytro. I will take the clutch of one rattler sled and put it on the new sled, and put the new one primary on the other sled. It may take me a week or so to do.......

noise

If u read my post in the vector section u will find that the 08-09 vectors do the same thing, I have taken my clutch off and ran engine, it sounds the way the sled should sound like, nice and quite and the great 4 stroke exhaust sound, I have researched this alot and have found that the cranks in the08-09 vectors have differnt spline thickness than the 05-07 vectors, they dont rattle nearly as bad as the 08s,presuming u have the oring kit installed in the earlier vector clutches Supposedly yamaha got a different supplier for the 08-09 cranks and they were made up with thinner splines . I took my buddies clutch off his 05 vector with 8000 miles on it and on his sled the clutch is real quite, bolt it on mine and it rattles as bad as my clutch did, Take your clutch and rotate it left and right real fast and u can actually hear the clunking of the splines on the crank and the stub shaft that the clutch bolts to. This is a major f... up on yamahas part Im waiting to here back from some service rep on this issue, They are aware of a problem, but to remedy this problem would probably bankrupt them,by having to put new cranks or stub shafts in all the 08-09 nytros and vectors So when it comes time to trade our sleds in we better not here that oh our sleds are to rattly we cant trade that in.

Rough Rider,
Thanks for your info, if its just a clutch issue I'm not so worried about it,
but if I'm reading you correctly its not a clutch issue its a crank issue.

please keep us posted on any new developments.

noise

Yes it is a crank and stub shaft issue, the freeplay between the two is what is sending the vibration into clutch and causing the noise,

Had my primary off to do some tuning, started it with the primary off and the sled sounds like a well tuned sport bike, not rattly at all.

I've been riding Yamaha's for quite some time now and have never had one noisy clutch until now.
