What is the purpose of the rollers in a clutch kit? It looks like it is part of the primary clutch. does this have anything to do with the engagement speed? I only see new rollers in teh Schmidt Brothres kit and he is the only one I see that advertises a lower engagement speed. His stage 1 kit has new rollers and a new primary spring.

Smaller rollers will lower engagement rpms making it easier to move around at low speed...unlike the stock Nytro's habit of engaging harsh.

So what is everyone using for rollers. And what is stock on 2008 rtx.

I put 14.5 rollers in my 09 XTX with a YPY primary spring. My sled had 15.6 rollers stock I believe, I think all nytro's have 15.6.

14.5 rollers and YPY spring really smoothed out the engagement and made the sled much more rideable in tight situations.

Correct sir.

Does it affect mid-range or top-end with ypy and 14.5 rollers thanks

I cant speak for top end loss but it does make it stronger bottom to mid range. I have some stuff going on that affects top end! Had my 1.75 track and 20 tooth top gear done before the clutching.

anybody know the part #s for the 14.5 rollers and y p y spring for the nitro thanks

rollers and spring work great ,have been using them for past 4 years, makes sled real ridable in tight tree areas and just all together smoother engagement when getting on and off throttle, best money spent

Back in 2009 when I purchased his dual exhaust, Chris shared with me that he developed a great recipe (or prescription) for his clutch kit. Initially, I purchased his stage I clutch kit. Then one year later I purchased his stage II. Like others have said, the SBM rollers make for a much smoother engagement as you press your throttle. You gradually press the throttle and your sled moves forward very gradually (no need to bleep the throttle). This results in a quicker and faster acceleration.

engage

Just a thought??

The oem belt is a very hard compound and the Nytro has a lot of initial torque.
There is a real risk of burnishing or even notching the clutch sheaves running a softer engagement setup and or if you try to slowly ride the sled around at barely moving speed.

I'm pretty sure Yamaha sets up the oem clutching for this reason.
Can't see any other reason they spec such a harsh engaging stock clutch tune other than to give the impressiuon of "raciness" which it does have...and gives crazy holeshot....IF yer hooked up enough to capture it.

jus' somethin to be aware of.

With the torque of a 4 stroke, you can have best of both worlds. Low engagement and better shifting rpm. I would argue that most clutched Nytro have a better hole shot than a stock.

14.5 rollers

YPY SPRING
90501-581L5-00

Is that the right part # for the rollers? I come up with 8FG-17624-00-00.
