The phazer I just picked up has aftermarket exhaust and 136 freeride. I was told clutch is stock. Other than vendor kits here,I haven't found a starting point for clutch set up. Anyone care to share theirs?
I have a 136 Freeride. No aftermarket exhaust, but I do have an aftermarket skid (EZ-Ryde). I'm currently experimenting with a Schmidt Bros Stage II setup. Kit comes with new secondary helix, new primary spring, and new fly weights (not actual fly weights, but small machine screws to replace OE fly weight rivets).
Originally, I followed the instructions provided with the kit, which were customized for my sled and riding style after talking with Chris at Schmidt Bros over the phone. Aside from swapping the helix, the only change I made to my secondary was to change the OE spring setting (don't remember exactly what was recommended). The primary requires removal of the fly weights in order to drill out the OE mid and tip rivets, which then get replaced with the machine screws supplied with the kit. That and swapping the primary spring are the only changes.
With Schmidt Bros original recommended set up, I found that I was over-revving at WOT. It was thought that my skid was greatly changing the approach or attack angle of the track (which it does) and that this was somehow reducing drag more than they (SB) thought ... so they suggested adding more weight and sent heavier nuts (thicker) for the tips of the fly weights. But I still experiencing about a 300 rpm over-rev at WOT. Optimal Rev I'm told should be approx 11,300 at WOT. This is where the Phazer makes peak power (I'm told).
Long story even longer, I called Ulmer racing and Allen suggested changing my secondary spring setting back to the OE setting. I have an RTX, so this is A1. Doing this did bring my RPMs down some but not enough ... so SB sent me heavier weights for mid and tips. But by this time, winter had come and gone and so I have yet to run the sled with the new set up, but I do think it's going to help to keep me from over revving. fingers crossed.
It seems like so long ago, that I honestly don't remember what the final weight of my primary is (I think I wrote it down somewhere if you would like to know). Bottom line, I've read about other guys experiencing the same problem (over rev) so this is just something you have to continue to experiment with in order to get it right. One other comment - I was very careful drilling out my fly weight rivets, and did not like having to do so. Ulmer's kit comes with entirely new fly weights I believe ... and if I were to do it again, I would prefer to go that route (nothing against SB, just my preference).

1.5" Freeride and Ulmer clutch kit was the best thing I ever did mine.

Ive got the extensions, just debating on 136" freeride or a cheap used track, and a 17T top gear or a clutch kit.
Hey OVR4D (it was dave, right?), what top gear do you have in yours currently?
Edit: Jeff you posted as I was typing mine, same question: which top gear do you have in yours?

X2 Perfect.

Yep, Dave. 18-tooth top gear I think ... it's an RTX and the gears are still stock (I think the bottom is a 23T).
As for track options, there's a thread here somewhere (I think Michdog2011 started it) about using a Firecat track and stretching to 128, which does not require tunnel extension/rear bumper work. Looks like a really good way to go IMO. Maybe you've read the thread already but if not, it's worth a look before pulling the trigger on Freeride track.
Being that we are practically neighbors, we'll have to get together this winter to compare rides ... whatever you decide to do.

Base Model Phazer, so I believe it's an 18t.
