As I gear up for the 2011/2012 sledding season (and Haydays for that matter), I've been dwelling over which clutching system would be the best option for my 2008 FX Nytro RTX 40th Anniversary Edition.
Last year I installed Sly Dog Powderhounds, and an MBRP exhaust system, and I found that my stock 1.25" ripsaw track just wasn't cutting it in the deep powder of North Western Ontario.
This year, I plan on picking up a 1.75" Ripsaw at Haydays, and then looking at either the Ulmer Racing FX Nytro Stage 1 Clutch Kit, or the Schmidt Bros. Stage 2 Clutch Kit.
I want to be able to get my front end up (wheelies) for fun in the powder, and not overly concerned with losing some top end because of the new track.
Any suggestions? or Experience with either of these clutch kits would be greatly appreciated.
Spanx.

I'm not sure if you saw the track Dyno numbers that Boss Performance got with their clutching but it was pretty impressive. I'm looking for a new clutch kit myself for this year and considering Boss as well as the same two as you.
Have you though about dropping a tooth on your top sprocket? If you are not worried about top speed and looking for low end snap it's a cheap effective change. I'm down 2 teeth.

I believe the 1.75 ripsaw is only available in 2.86 pitch. Your nytro is 2.52...so that isn't going to work without switching drivers.
There are a lot of other 1.75" tracks out there tho with 2.52 pitch.

I would gear down a tooth on the top sprocket. There are a lot of good clutching out there for the nytro. The ulmers pulls really hard on bottom and will make it wheelie if thats what your looking for.

You may want to consider lengthening the track slightly , maybe to 136? You could then put something like the Backcountry track that I have seen many great reviews for on here. Putting the extra track down on the ground will definately help with wheelies as more of the power can be put down. A longer track combined with good clutching will make it a beast of a trail and off-trail machine.
And just in case you didn't know a 1.75 track in an rtx will require removal of the tunnel protectors on the tunnel and heat exchanger. Last I heard the largest lug with the protectors in place is a 1.5.

Adding legnth to the stock skid which I mean rail extensions drastically reduces wheelies.Yes you get more traction but its hard to do wheelies.

Yes but he is saying he would like to be able to wheelie in powder. which from what i understand, a longer track should help with by increasing it slightly.pro116 said:207nytro said:You may want to consider lengthening the track slightly , maybe to 136? Right he is.
But they make a 121x1.75" 2.52 pitch backcountry that would work well!
There are also some sno-x tracks out there that are 2.52 with 1.75" lugs.

Could also pick up a 2" challenger 121". They make a model that is notched for heat exchangers, and it fits in a nytro no problem with all the tunnel protectors still in.
I ran the 136" 2" challenger that was notched, it worked great in the deep powder.

I had taken into account the removal of the tunnel protectors and head exchanger. Didn't realize that the ripsaw does not have the right pitch avail. though.
One of the other tracks I had been considering was a 1.5" x 121" Intense, not sure if anyone has tried one out on a Nytro for comparison?

A buddy of mine had one on his sled and it seemed to work great. A nice middle size for trail and off trail riding.
