Code 11 : /

Relay in question is in a rubber retainer hooked on to the side of the battery basket, adjacent to oil tank.

OK Sooooooo i found the problem! :) i tore into the machine last nite and see what i can find.

Panels off ,hood off ,headlight up and out of the way ,airbox out and turned key to start and CLACK ,thats what it sounded like cause i was right there..i hold the relay and turn the key again and CLACK ..starter relay !

Upon closer inspection i noticed some green ! what green ? WTF i dielectric grease this before ?:die hmmm so i took it out ,blew compressed air ,cleaned with electrical cleaner ,blew with air ,scrubbed ,blew with air ,electrical cleaner, blew with air ,dielectric grease and install.

NO issues since! fired up 10 times no problems! i make sure my things are well taking care of ,idk i must not put enough grease on..? but, i have a new one on order because its just feels right to me.

Im going to cut this old one in half and have a look, could be down inside too

So CODE 11 ?? corrosion does weird things with electrical .i never thought it would be the starter relay ? i heard it click ,but when its apart its a clack in my ears.

Hartatac you should check your starter relay !! i cant guarantee this is YOUR issue but i would take a look forsure!

I feel much better :drink:

Good to hear! I took my starter relay apart last night, cleaned it and put dielectric grease on it. I also took off the cylinder identification sensor cleaned the connections and put grease on them. Hopefully this will keep the moisture out and we won't have any more problems

Take a real close look! i had already cleaned mine once ,but it wasnt good enough . on mine looks like the green also goes inside relay ? this is why im cutting it open when i get my new one and have a look inside.also give the female ends a little squeeze like Apexallday said for a tighter fit.

I didnt bother with the cylinder sensor, was yours looking bad ?

My cylinder sensor did not look bad at all.

My sled has started with no problems every time since I put it in the warm garage. I have not left it out in the cold yet so I'm not sure if the problem will reoccur. Actually my starter relay did not look bad either so I really don't know for sure where the problem was but I'm hoping the dielectric grease will keep moisture out and prevent anything from freezing again. I am going to look at the starter relay again and will give the female connectors a squeeze.

Tested the sled last night after cleaning the sensors and greasing them. I left it outside overnight and the temperature was -27. I had no problem with the starter relay at all. The fuel pump relay was froze, so I put my hand on it for a minute and the sled started right up. I think a lot of the problems with moisture around the sensors is following someone all day and getting snow dust on the sensors and it freezes up over night.

Any moisture in the air will turn to frost. That frost on anything electrical is not good. It doesn't matter where you ride. Simple heat from the engine department and looks dry as a bone can then under right conditions turn to condensation. Anyway, there is a solid state red fuse relay for the fuel pump. Available from your Yamaha dealer. It really helps with these issues.

Good! so you got a code 11 from a frozen fuel pump relay..wow.yeah following someone all day ,or sleet/rain ,even power washing your sled could do it.

Yep ,i switched to these couple years ago.i never had a problem with the old black ones,i didnt want any problems!

Does anyone know what's the part number for the Apex starter relay ? I'm having the same issues. Mine is an '06 GT.

The starter relay assay is 8LW-81940-20. The fuse that goes into the assay is 42X-82151-00.

Actually I don't think I got code 11 from the fuel pump relay. When my sled wouldn't start the first time, I believe it was the starter relay and I got code 11. Once I warmed it up and greased everything the second day the fuel pump relay was froze but I did not get any code.

No codes i dont think from a pump relay that i know of.

I believe my starter selenoid failed is because i start my sled up every week since 06 >winter -spring-summer-fall....i like to exercise everything.just wore the part down ,you only get so much time/uses .yes i put dielectric grease on most electrical connections ,it it threw a Code 11 ,and it had to do with a spike in voltage i think .i replaced it with a brand new part from Yamaha and it was good to go ever since no issues at all !

Code 11 said >> Cylinder Identification Sensor>> but it was not the case ! if anyone gets this code replace the Starter selenoid FIRST !
