Cometic .065 gasket problem

We installed a MCX on the sled, started it and and coolant starts dripping out of the back of the cylinder, well,it was so much fun taking everything the first time to do the head gasket we were so looking forward to do it again.(That was sarcasism)So upon close inspection,I find that there Aluminum filings in between all the layers of the gasket, one big chunk right where it was leaking, now I'm really impressed and yes the gasket came in the plastic wrapper,so I'm really not wanting to put three gaskets together,so I removed the little brass rivits that sandwich the gaskets together and clean all the shavings out inspected the gasket surfaces, laid them on bench and sprayed one side each with a coat of copper spray and put them back in,and no more leaks,so the moral of the story is check the gaskets before you assume that the packaging that it came in is good enough.Simon, just for the hell of it check some of your stock to see if there others like that.

That's why I won't take my motor apart.....No How....No way. Your just asking for headaches. Leave it stock and turbo it for power and reliability.

#$%&* Cometic! They suck and their gaskets are crap. Same prob here with .051 No I have to pay to get the Yamaha gaskets put in.

For me, i wouldnt do an RX1 If I had to run anything less than 15lbs boost so I dont have a choice

Wow I must've got lucky both of my 0.54 ( Why do they keep changing the sizes ?) they both went in without a hitch ,and were clean.

I have done 2 installs with no troubles either. First was a .057" with 1800 milesand max boost of 12.2 #'s. Second is a .054" with max boost of 18#'s. I agree. What's with the changing thicknesses?

Looks like Cometics are hit and miss. I usually dont get so PO'd and express it but man does this suck to have my sled done and now I have to take it back apart! :o|

gasket

Same problem here. I blew a head gasket last year and didn't know it. Put Turbo on and that really made it obvious that the head gasket eas blown. I went with cometic gasket and it leaks. Yes, it was copper coated. I should have listened to the warnings on this site. Now I am putting a stock gasket back in and want to fricken scream. I still haven't riden this thing for more than a couple miles at a time and it is Feb. I like the two fuel tank idea, one for race gas and one for premium. Freak, this does suck, I am getting pretty good at taking this thing apart . LOL

Freak...... how are you injecting the fuel with your nitros on your turbo rx1... how much fuel presure are you using ??

I am going to spray a small 3 second dry shot into the turbo. Just to get out of the hole faster. Havent run it yet, but soon.

I posted this in general but here is the problem with the Cometics. Ridge is too thin. No flat spot on the ridge to create a water seal. #$%&* Nice job Cometic. I suspect if your gasket has a flat spot here you will be ok. I will never trust a Cometic again though.

OHH, AND BTW, I HAVE MY NEW DUAL YAMMY GASKETS IN AND THERE IS NO LEAKY! LaLaLa

Peterracing, I read your post with great interest. It seems you said to inspect them to see if there were any slight differences. I told my mechanic to do that. Problem is that they are built the same as the OEM but the Cometic was just built poorly. He didnt catch this. OH well you live and learn.
