I ride almost primarily with my wife. She is crazy about riding and no way I can leave her back and go with the guys.

But she is fairly new to sledding and does alright but Im always concerned over certain obstacles and what not. Plus having no mirrors on my RTX im constantly looking over my shoulder and what not.

I have thought about getting the radio system for the helmets. I have seen a few where you can plug your MP3 player in and it will cut out when someone talks.

Of course need typical range of riding and then a little more when in trouble.

Anyone using them and what are your thoughts of them?

I use FRS radios connected to Moto-Comm in helmet speaker setup with mic boom. I also the AUX cable to hook up my ipod. You can listen to the ipod without having the radio hooked up. During reception of someone talking to you the music is muted and it has a mute button to turn the music off if you having an extended conversation. Works great for listening to music, works good for communication. Just wish I could get more of my riding buddies to get them. As long as you are on the same channel you can communicate with Sno-fones and Chatterboxes.

well reading for the last hour of some older threads it appears the Colletts are the way to go.

Im assuming with the Yamahas wiring them directly like heated shield would be no issue.

We were going to get GPS this year, but thinking this may be more advantageous to us whom rarely go off trail and generally have some knowledge of where we are at "generally" LOL

we have the chatterbox frs models and this year we are going to switch to the collett 900's. the chatterbox's were good but seemed like after 4 or 5 years with them they started to lose something.....didn't always work right....so this time we are giving the commmunicator a try. all in all they are awesome to have! well worth the investment, no more turning around to see if she is there, just ask, she says yes and you keep going!she can say stop , speed up, slow down, kiss off! lol...... i had heard that a few times for spraying her! lol......

Colletts operate off their own rechargable 4.8v battery pack, don't wire them to 12v. Here is a website for very cheap Colletts

Hi Kevin,

I've got a set of platinum 900's. I'm now single, and no longer need communicators with my ex-fiance. the only thing is... she won't give back the helmet speakers.

So, if you're interested in buying a set, minus one set of helmet speakers, and one charger, I've got two sets for sale as a whole. I think you can get helmet speakers for $29 or just use ipod speakers.

email me, joel at winepress.us and I'll send you a pic of evertything. They're great, and the groomer beacon is priceless. I think I paid $360 for both sets... Make an offer..

Cheers,
joel

Will do...

really would like to wire them in, and NOT have to deal with batteries, recharging all that good stuff.

Anyone done this?

Someone has a power supply for a hardwire.

No experience with this product. We've moved away from the communicators, mostly because I'm spoiled with racing radio systems and can't adjust to the communicators 'lower' sound quality.

Collett says they purposely didn't design them to work off sled juice as the electrical noise from the dirty current would limit range a great deal.

Also having it's own power source allows you to talk while away from your sled like when taking a quick trail break where you really don't want to have to remove your helmet.

Why on gods green earth would a person want to talk to their wife? The first thing I did when I bought my motorcycle was cut the communication wires.

This summer I was flying across the lake in my boat and the DNR pulled me over. He says hey buddy, your wife fell out of your boat when you left the marina. I said, Oh good! For a bit there I thought I was going def.

Hey Kevin My wife and I used to use Collet 900's all the time, Now I just like the peace and quiet of my gutted exhaust instead of you know what, Hey PM me we are probably goin riding this weekend maybe we can put something together.

LOL I guess I can understand what your saying, but Im constantly cranking around to see what she is up to.

I got a pretty cool wife, hell she rides an Apex and lets me buy new Apex's too even told me to build a turbo apex for asphalt. That and she would be telling me to pull into every strip club we pass - how would I like to find out 20 miles later and here her say "why didnt you stop at that strip club, I was thirsty"

I was thinking about these for me and the mrs., but have heard in the past that the range isn't too good. What can a guy expect from these and are one better than the other when it comes to range?

Thanks, John :4STroke:

Kevin, I think we need to have your wife post here to verify your claim. Aparently, you have found a rare breed, an unknown to most mortal men, we must verify that she is infact..... "cool?"":)
LOL

Strip club.... really??

I'd be dead for reading the strip clubs sign as we drove by!
