Considering a 2003 RX1 - what to look out for?

The sled I was talking about when I started this post sold. The guy was only available between 4:30 and 9:00 pm and I missed him the first day, and today when I called it was sold.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I don’t launch my sled across every driveway, or rail it off every bump I see, but we do ride hard over some rough terrain, and Id like the option to launch her every once in a while! Not like big air launch by any means… but just punch the throttle and feel light for a bit. I’d love to take you up on your offer Jim! However I am like 4-5 hours south of you! I hear what you are saying Raypex… that is good advice. Just kinda stinks that we have to just bite the bullet and hope for the best.

I sold my grizzly 660 (just didnt ride it much after I got a YZ250F), and just sold the ZR440.

let the hunt begin!

and the hunt has ended! I picked up slednecks Apex today. Thanks for all the feedback and advise everyone!

There are a few things on the machine that need to be addressed, but overall I love it!

There is a definite weight difference between my old 440 and this thing (which was obviously completely expected!), but you really do not feel it at all. I love the engine breaking! My grizzly (sold it to buy this thing) had it, so it wasnt too hard to get used to. I would say in about 5-10 miles I had the throttle control in check. The Ice Ripper XT is a nice track, but out on the lakes and on take-off I really missed the studded track of the ZR.

Edit: If you notice the time of my post when I said the hunt is over? It was 15 below at 4am and I still had to force myself to get off the trails and go home!

Digitalfusion, I jumped on an '03 RX1 without having a clue as to what I was in for. You can check out my signature and see that most of the mods are ones that I share. I couldn't be happier with my sled. Are you going to break trail in Houghton? No. but you can follow someone else. I did it last weekend with the stock track, was amazed at the duff that I did slog through! 4 cylinders at my beck and call. Raypex has good advice. Check out the engine, jackshaft & speedo bearings. Run a compression test, verifiy the previous owner was not a half wit, then get out and RIDE!
