O.k so my dad just bought this 03' RX-1, and we were going through the sled and noticed that if you put pressure one these rods between the carbs that coolant would leak out. You can see some coolant in the pic (sorry for the quality, cell phone pic.) Just wondering if this is normal, and if anyone else has seen this. The other question I was wondering is are these carb heaters?

Yes, that is the carb heater system that circulates the hot coolant through the carbs before the heat exchangers. Some people bypass the system and put a shut-off valve on the lines. The hot coolant can make starting a little more difficult once the engine is warm because the carbs get very hot from the coolant sitting in them and evaporate some of the little gas in them.

Make sure it is leaking from there. That is a hard tube so it will need to be replaced. I had a head gasket leak that sprayed coolant all over that spot and i thought the same thing but it was the head gasket. Get it fixed or it will make a mess this winter.

Yamaha had a TSB out for that concern with revised o-rings. If your YAMAHA dealer can't help you out I can fax you a copy.

Yeah thats a common problem I have 2 of them that leaked you have to tear down the rack to replace the "o" rings.
