I have those Red Handled In Line shut off valves installed on my fuel lines, like many of you have!
My question is: Has anyone used these same in line valves for the coolant line to the carbs? :?

I used three of these with no problems....

I see 2 in your picture! Do you have 1 on your coolant feed to the carbs also? Are those 1/4" or 5/16" ? Where did you get them, Dennis Kirk?

yup dennis kirk pt#18-0690 5/16 in-line fuel valve page 260 in the 05 catalogue I do have on the coolant line also looking for another picture...

Bob, I installed the same fuel shut off values as you and also used the same value for the coolant line to the carbs. Works great!

SD, Do you have the same as pictured or do you have the ones with the RED lever like I do. The ones I have are 1/4" and I have them just on the fuel lines. 8)

I think B.M. is asking if the fuel lines are 1/4" and if the cooling line is 5/16". I am also wondering the same.
I bought a Ski-Doo coolant valve because I was unsure if a fuel valve would take the heat..... and it is 5/16".

I used a carb valve from a Yamaha 700, the hoses fit perfectly. I made an aluminum bracket and used stainless fasteners.

I installed one on my Warrior as well. I fold the rubber flap forward on the air box to let the hot air escape. I would be careful when you use the coolant heater shutoff. On temps above freezing is the only time to use it. If you intend on riding full out across the lake, don't do it because the carbs will freeze up. Under regular trail rides it is safe but not on "full pulls" This is what happend to me. I had the heaters off, and was crossing a lake when my son passed me. I was not going to let that happen so I pinned it and passed him. At the end of the lake the motor started to pop and crackle. I quickly shut it of and let it sit for a couple of minutes. When I started it back up it had cleared. I rationalized that the carbs froze up during the blast across the lake. I surmised this because I have never experienced any popping or irregular behaviour from this motor ever in all of its 6000km. On the up side I did notice that the fuel milage actually goes up when the heaters are shut off.

What was the temperature on the lake that day when this happened to you?
On a 1999 V-Max 700 which had the valve on it already, Greqoire Sport in Canada told me to only use it when the temperature got down to zero, and that's what I did, and I never had any issues ;)!
What is the difference in gas mileage?
I understand the engine will also start easier when hot if you have the coolant valve in the off position.

There are other factors too besides temp

- snow dust
- humidity

the right combination of the three will freeze the carbs

I rode 900 miles in 4 days in Quebec last year with the coolant shut off except in the morning to start the sled. It was well below zero most of the time and I had no problems at all and it started much better than it did with the coolant turned on previously.
I don't understand why the shut offs aren't installe at the factory.

They were standard on the mountain sleds for 05 - not sure why they are not on the rest of them.
