So I’m thinking I’ll grab Copitrail over the summer. The biggest deterrent all along has been needing to keep stock gauge, and I use the goggle bag a lot. Any other suggestions on how to handle the stock gauge issue?
Also anyone know if it will support the new iPad mini or just the 4-5? Thanks

Wonder if that will fit my windsheild. I’ll have to look into that. It get the heat from motor inside the glove box? And that will fit an iPad?get the glove box from cat and you can mount the same as ive done with GPS

I saw that but didn’t seem it. Must be tho it’s closest I’ve seen. Appears to need a pretty massive windsheild to clear it tho.I think its called the Dash Caddy

yeah, I have a hard time getting excited about it for that reason. It just seems like an awkward design but I might pick one up anyhow as I just cannot get past paying so much for the copitrail kit for what amounts to some 3D printed parts. I also don't really want to give up the goggle bag, its very useful. I know, first world problems
Looking at the NS1 gauges, they are the closest thing to a complete package out there but they completely replace the stock gauges.

That’s my issue. If copi didn’t need the stock gauge relocated I’d have been all over it years ago. I like the concept of how it all integrates and it uses a 8” screen and completely configurable. I can have data logging and my tuning options and so on since I’m running all td stuff. I need to get flasher with data logging anyway this summer and that’s half the price.yeah, I have a hard time getting excited about it for that reason. Ns1 had interested me but back to needing the flasher and data logger for next year it would put me right back into same price with less features.
Idk was hoping for a fancy gauge delete or hiding feature a bracket that surrounds stock gauge to mount iPad to front would be a great plan. But unlike ns1 it needs the warning lights an things available.

I thought the copitrail kit is still without a display (bring your own ipad), if so, its going to end up a lot more expensive than the NS1 isnt it? I should look closer.
I am going to start looking at a way to add a mount above the stock gauges, I will mock something up in CAD and see what it ends up looking like.

Yes needs an iPad mini but that’s only $150-200 more. If you can get the new iPad mini then it will be $500 more but display will be as good as they get.I thought the copitrail kit is still without a display (bring your own ipad), if so, its going to end up a lot more expensive than the NS1 isnt it? As far as a mock up I am thinking mount the stock gauge just behind the iPad so the warning lights are visible. That’s the main reason stock gauge is still used as far as I know. Haven’t been able to get as much info as I would like on these. Or see and use either sadly.

I really would like to see both in person, I will have to keep my eye out for someone around here running one or the other. I have been slowly building a list of questions to send of to the NS1 guy to get some feedback as his website doesn't do justice to what I think his solution can do.

I run the ipad mount that copitrail uses, but not copitrail. I use the gap app for my display and switch to the Doo app for trails. It's cool to stop at the bar and look at the data logging. Also cool to use the doo app to easily select routes and see how many miles it would be based on the selected route. It really helps us plan where we want to go when in larger groups. FYI - I would get an Ipad Mini 5 over the 4. I just upgraded and while the 4 worked, the 5 is much more responsive.

What you are buying is a 3D printed adapter for the mount, the 3D printed mount, the 3D printed housing for the canbus to bluetooth adapter and a cable harness. Bring your own ipad. So on top of the $1199.00 basic price you add another $3-500.00 for the ipad itself, so... $1500-1800 all in.
Does the datalogging that comes with the flash/adapter not have the same information? (other than the map).

You still need your phone, iPad or laptop to plug into and download the info. I would still need to invest in a gps system of some sort. Flasher with data logging is 799. Then garmin and maps and mounts an so on. Or an ns1 plus all this and ns1 I think also requires ipad purchase. What you are buying is a 3D printed adapter for the mount, the 3D printed mount, the 3D printed housing for the canbus to bluetooth adapter and a cable harness. With the copitrail product, you do not need your phone is my understanding. The ipad is for all intents and purposes, a giant iphone, it runs the same apps, its has its own GPS built in. It has all the same functions EXCEPT cellular calls. That is an artificial differentiation btw, imposed by apple, they probably have everything internal needed to be a phone. Anyhow. You don't need your phone because you should be able to use the GAP app on your ipad to flash. You do need to either use the copitrail maps or some other map app to provide mapping functionality but you should be able to use any mapping app that runs on IOS (apple). So CoPiTrail = adapter, cables, mounts, and CANbus to bluetooth adapter = $1199+Ipad Mini for between $300-$500 or or $1500-1700 all in. I am not saying it isn't worth that and I realize that this is ... more or less competitive with the aftermarket gauge markup for the Doo or Poo.You still need your phone, iPad or laptop to plug into and download the info. An NS1 product basically stands alone as far as I can tell. For $599 for the NS1 you get a tablet (7" or 8" Lenovo), and the cable/adapters and mounting system. It is a complete replacement for your stock gauges. It can show all the pertinent canbus data (speed, temperatures, rpm, etc) and it can show you AFR, boost, altitude, etc. And it can do data logging across all of that data. The cable sits inline with your canbus cable (like the copitrail) and the adapter converts CANbus to bluetooth (like the copitrail), and the lenovo tablet displays what is coming from bluetooth in the form of gauges. Further you can split screen the tablet and run the map (any map app) that runs on android on one side and your choices of gauges on the other. This would include all popular mapping apps (OFSC trails in canada, trakmaps, vvmapping, etc). Not that I am any fan of android but its half the price of just the converter box/cable/and adapter mount from copitrail, never mind you would still have to buy a tablet.
Not saying the copitrail isn't worth it, it may be worth every penny just not seeing it yet which is why I want to see both in action. The screen (brightness, contrast, quality) on the ipad mini is a known commodity for me so just that alone could be worth it.
