I've been told... By a jerk at a dealer... That copper exhaust donuts work well but they eat the pipe instead. Any truth to this? I haven't seen any issues on here. I used them on my 06 worked well I have an 11 Apex now hope it doesn't wreck my $2000 exhaust.

The guy at your dealer doesn't have a clue what the hell he's talking about! I've been a machinist for 30+ yrs and have yet to see copper "" EAT AWAY "" at a harder metal!

Hmmmm...... My factory donuts took out both of my header flanges.
I replaced headers and put in copper donuts last season
I was told to cover donuts with hi temp RTV silicone and to shave 1/8" off spacers on the clamps before reinstalling ( by the local bender racing team).
Thats what I did, time will tell.

Did they wear and then disintegrate and then flange break?

Silicone, no matter how high temp it is, cannot survive those types of temperatures. Put mine on dry, no issues in 10k+ km.

Yes ......Tbay Sledhead....... they started leaking and then disintegrated and then the flanges broke (stock Titanium)Silicone, no matter how high temp it is, cannot survive those types of temperatures. Put mine on dry, no issues in 10k+ km.
Thanks, Mooseman, I questioned the durability of the rtv as well. I was advised to lightly skim the donut and to run a bead inside the clamps.Let set 2 weeks.
I will post,if turns out to be bad advice.
1 seasons, 2500km, ok so far. Curious did you modify clamps? Stainless or titanium Y pipes?

Are you sure that the gasket didn't disintegrate first and then the pipe broke, because when the gasket is gone it allows the pipe to rattle around in there which I think is the cause of the failure. If you had copper gaskets and titanium pipes I think that it would be ok, but mine broke and were replace by the updated ss pipes.

The 2011-up sleds don't have the stainless steel update. Which sucks.
