Cost for Apex/Attak Oil change?

Whats everyone being charged by dealer for oil change.

Dealer that has our Attak called to say its ready and that the bill is $250 for an oil change and test drive!

They said it took the tech 2 hours to do, anyone know what yamaha pulls hour wise for an oil change.

I spend Approximately $75-80 a year in 2-stroke oil, id actually be saving money with 2-stroke at the cost of the oil change haha.

It took him an hour and fifteen minutes to put the airbox on or take the skidplate off and failed to check the oil screen.

The dealers have to stop and think about what they are doing some times when they charge this amount for a simple job.
Can you Say STEELER SHIP.
I would question what they did and if the answer is change oil and filter with know problems, tell them you won't be coming back.
Its $75.00 ish for oil and filter and a deeler should be able to do it in an hour.

I just had a new battery installed and a Mobil 1 oil change and filter by a Yamaha dealer (FUEL motorsports, West Bend, WI). This particular dealer recommended I get it changed every other riding season.

Here is the breakdown of charges for parts and labor:

Replaced 2 gaskets and washer/seal = $6
4 qts of Mobil 1 0W40 = $48
Filter = $14
New Battery = $94 (my battery died at about 3k miles)
Labor (.78 hours for everything) = $69.42 Dealer said no extra labor charge for battery install.

I am not sure if I got the best deal in the world, but I did call them and asked for a quote ahead of time. They also called me before any work was done to get my approval once they went through the sled. I was comfortable with the price and was able to get my sled back the same day so I pulled the trigger.

I would have done it myself if it was my sled but my dad wanted to take it into a dealership for its first service just to see if there is anything wrong with sled.

They did oil change then i told them to call me before they went further, they called once oil change was done. They were going to check out the rear suspension but they said it was going to take them 3 hours just to pull the rear skid, and if the rear shock needed to be rebuilt that it would be a couple hundred dollars. Told them to stop right there, as they already sound like clowns ill bring the sled home pull the shock myself and then take the shock to Shocktec.

They also thought the front end was out of alignment, interesting as nothing looked out and the sled has Ski-doo skis. Ill measure it when i get it home.

The sled is an Attak GT with 3300miles, sled ran great on weekend but rides TERRIBLE in the shutters, so hoping to correct that.

Does anyone know the time for these types of jobs? I would imagine Yamaha is like any other car or rec. manufacturer where there are a set amount of hours to do "X" job. I would be surprised if Yamaha called for 2 hours for an oil change, and 3 hours to remove a skid that's insane. What would a track swap be 20 hours?!

I pulled my skid in less than a half hour with the help of one other person. Pulling it out is the easy part. Putting it back was not so easy. There are several links to give you step by step instructions to make sure it goes smooth.

My rear shock was blown around 2800 miles. I had it rebuilt and put a big guy spring on for about $170. It could probably still use some adjustments to the suspension, but it handles most of what I throw at it.

I would find a new dealer to work with! Good luck.

To do a oil change should take no more than an hour, skid removal should take about 15 min to maaaybe 30 if you have a nap.

I got a oil and filter change, full service pre season check, and new woody's 4" dually's installed for just over $250. I did not get it done by a dealer though, just a private guy that runs his own business.

Hopefully your dad has learned his lesson, this job, including oil shouldn't be anymore than $150 tops imo but if you purchased Yamalube Full synthetic and a Yamaha filter, that alone can cost around $70 to $90 bucks depending on what your dealer charges for the oil and filter (All dealers, whether CDN or American do not have a standard amount hey charge for these and other products)

Got sled home. The dealer was Powersports Junction in Guelph Ontario.

Crooks. Do not take anything there. I do not feel like they are competent nor should they be a Yamaha dealer. Sled came home rattling like something was loose, time to do it properly ourselves now.

$250 for an Oil Change and Chain-case Oil change. $30 to take the sled for a "test drive" first i have ever heard of a dealer charging for a test drive. Asked them to grease it while they had it, not a single grease fitting was touched.

I also called another Yamaha dealer and they said the oil change should take around an hour in labor. These clowns said it took them two and they are charging $94 a hour!

I do all my own work on my sleds, however my father wanted to get it done at a Yamaha dealer for the first service so it was done right, he also did not have time this week to be wrenching on sled. Downside is now we have lost a week and the sled is still not ready, ill pull the skid tomorrow do the sliders and pull the shock to go in for service. Not that I would ever be using them, plus I do everything I can myself thanks to this site, but thanks for letting me know!

I have heard horror stories from all Manu's dealers, not just Yamaha ones and that is enough for me to avoid them all if at all possible?

Makes one wonder how these guys get licensed and/or qualified?

this is my first 4 stroke and took me 2 hours the first time (taking my time) but i feel i can do it within an hour next time now that i know what to expect. i think a dealer that does these all the time should be alble to it easily do one with the filter within an hour.
