Here's another example of the unexpected--I friend of mine and I were riding today through a field that I've been through a thousand times, and go through everytime I ride. At about 70-80 mph we come into the field where the wind had blown little drifts that were basically as hard as concrete. You all know the kind I mean. It was hard to pick out contrast because of the way the sky was overcast. Cruisin' along and all of the sudden it felt like someone smashed me in the back with a sledgehammer. RX-1 straight up into the air, then I felt myself tumbling for what felt like forever, and seeing those little white spots you see after you get whacked in the head. My sled managed to stay upright and was waiting for me about 150 feet away from where I finally stopped. We went back to see what caused it, and it was a drift about a foot tall. Sled landed 90 feet past that, I stopped tumbling 130 feet further. My friend said it looked like I was a rag doll doing cartwheels at least 8 times. Crap like this really makes you realize you never know when somethings going to go wrong. I'm a semi-aggresive rider, but not stupid, and in 15 years this is only my second time being thrown off a sled. Guess it was my turn. My wife's having our first child in another month and I would really like to be there to see it. As she always says to me before I go for a ride--"Be safe".

Been there,done that.Glad you´re OK.
Allways be a 100% sure of what you have ahead of you.

Blue blood

Glad to hear you on here saying oops, but I am ok.
Much better than Mrs. Blue "Our newborn daughter lost her Daddy today when the dumbass tried to do a SuperDave in the middle of a field."

Close calls SUCK, but if they allow you another one, you are lucky.

Totally agree guys--going to make sure I know what's ahead, thought I did but guess not. There isn't a single person who has an RX that hasn't had it over 80, I just happened to hit something. Live and learn. Most importantly live!

It isn't going over 80 that is the problem, it is the location. Please save it for a road, or groomed trail. We don't want to see you get hurt. Even a lake is dangerous unless you check it out first. I read recently about someone hitting a block of ice, left by an ice fisherman. Some of them make a large hole for spearing, and put the block on the ice, instead of under it, then move the shanty, leaving a real hazard.

Those few jerk snowmobilers cause the fishermen to dislike us. Almost every year there are head-on collisions at tipup town, because of the reckless high speed riding near others. The ATV riders are even worse.

Sometimes I park a distance away from a fisherman, walk over, and ask about the fishing. That way they know we all aren't like that.

I agree with you about the location Yooper, I guess the biggest reason I thought it was safe was because we had already been across that field right before I crashed, however we were running in the same direction that the wind had blown the little drifts and they were hardly noticeable. But going back the other way, BIG time noticeable! I know I'll be more careful in the future, because I want a future. I hear ya about the ice fisherman--I also stay way far away from them, don't want to piss off anyone. I wish they would all mark their holes, but obviously they don't. Heard one too many stories about accidents that way.
