Couple QUESTIONS FOR YOU GUYS........

S pump said:
Another thought..............could a leaky exhaust caue valve failure and subsequent no compression?

If one cylinder were leaking by, your motor would still run. You might have to give it a little gas to get it started. Trust me, I just finished changing a piston and one set of rings and because my piston was broken and my top ring was gone. My motor still ran.

If you had bent or broken valves, the motor wouldnt even turn over.

Turn the primary clockwise and you will feel the compression. Or, if your engine turns over, take off the top lid of the airbox, open the throttle, and cup your hand over one of the intake throats while cranking. You will feel it sucking your hand if you cup it tight enough. Do that for each cylinder. If it sucks your hand to the intake, you will also be getting compression.

If an intake or exhaust valve is stuck...or, if you have 4 bad pistons/rings, it will not suck your hand to the intake.

PM me if you have any questions.

pump

when you turn your key onyou should hear a click on 1 of your relays down by your left footwell,if not then its your relay, theres 4 of them there,3 are alike so switch them up and try them,if you do hear a click when you flip the key on then is your 10 amp fuse down on the starter solenoid by the battery theres 2 fuse on it and 1 is the fuel injection system,if you want to test your pump run a hot wire off yor battery to thered wire onn the pump,I shaved a little of the wire on the red one to make contact, you will hear it run then,if not the pump is bad,i just went thru the thing on mine this week,it was the fuse by the battery...good luck

Stupid question I guess, where is the fuel pump located. I see a lead going to the back of the tank with a rubber cover high on the left side sitting on the sled.......Is that it...........fuse is good. One fuse and a spare by the looks of it.

The wire at the top left is your fuel gauge wires. The fuel pump is located inside the tank. You have to take the seat off to get to that part of the tank. It only takes about 10 minutes to take your seat off. Take your seat off and start checking things out.

Do you hear the relay clicking? If you take your seat off, you will see the connection to the fuel pump. Unplug that connection and turn your key on. When you do that, you should hear the relay click. If the relay doesn't click, either it has no power or it is stuck. If it clicks, check for voltage at the plug that you just pulled off the fuel pump. If you've got voltage and no pumping, your pump is bad.

In case you don't know where to go for parts breakdowns, here is the link

Item #5 is your fuel pump

Thanks Stout......I'm about to go try that. I found the drawing on HLSM.............I knew where it was already, I guess I had brain fade................If I can't diagnose from here, :o| it's off to the dealer

I looked at the fuel pump and there is no juice at the lead...........no click at the relay but there is juice at the relay leads. I switched up the relays and still no click. The pump has continuity between + and -. So I'm thinkin relays. My exhaust is leaking too so it's off to the dealer for them to stress over. Weekends are getting short so I need to ride. :4STroke: ?

Sled is at the dealer.......we'll see what they find...........anyone have a Ripsaw in good shape they'd sell? Starting to get expensive.

Welllllllll............

Just got a call from my dealer..............good new, bad news. Good news is my warranty covered it all. Bad new is my sled was toast. At the beginning of this thread, my sled had quit some 300 miles from my ride. Dealer said ECM went causing a lean condition which fried a couple hand fulls of valves and pistons. Anyway, long story, short. They replaced all of the top of the motor, exhaust, front to back, New Ohlins EC Shock, radiator, slides, wheels, and a bag full of other parts. I have to pay for the hi fax and a couple wheels. I'm OK with that. Thank God for the extended warranty. Over $6000 at list in parts and labor................I guess I'm riding the Apex for another year.

Holy Crap! That's a lot of stuff to go wrong. Any Ideas on the cause, of the ECU? Not to sir the pot but, stock handwarmers, or were you running the "HOT" option. I would think that the grip circuit is isolated from te rest of the control but figured I would ask.

No idea what cause the problem. My guess would be that the speedo sensor was shorting the ecu at some point during the ride causing the lean condition. I am sure glad I bought the warranty and I really love the sled, Now all I need is a new track and some jackshaft bearings and she's good as new.....................I hope! oh yah, stock handwarmer set up.

Just curious how this thread just popped up since the last entry that I can see was almost 3 years ago.

I guess I drank a bit too much during yesterday's Vikings game! I must have been looking at S Pump's joined date. Sorry, I will try to pay better attention from now on.

In any case I'm glad that the extended warranty paid off for S Pump. I hope to not have to use mine but it is a nice feeling to have it.

Sucks for you but at least you had the warrenty and they covered it. Thanks letting us know how it turned out!
