Hello all, I was wondering if I could get some input from the guys that have painted there plastic hoods and body panels. I was looking at painting my hood and was wondering what steps were taken and what products were used. I want it to last under normal wear, not a showroom sled. Thanks Guys!
I'm running a painted hood as with a couple others. I try to destroy my sled and I think the painted hood holds up great. It will scratch but it holds up to most abuse well. Not sure about how the guy that does ours prepares it but he did say that I could use that fusion paint and do it myself if I wanted. Not much help for ya but I can tell you it can be done with very good results.

I had a couple panels painted by an automotive bumper repair company. I believe it was a division of dent wizard. They did a good job.
Might be an option for you to check out.

i painted mine using dupont rat rod black automotive paint... you must use an adhesion promotor, and add a flex additive to the paint so it wont crack.. make sure the plastic is clean and scuffed... the key is clean oil free plastic.. dont even touch it with your fingers and clean it with an automotive solvent... mine has been painted for 3yrs and has been ridden 3000miles and is flawless..

I did mine with a spray can of that fusion paint. Held up really well last year. It says you dont have to but I did scuff my plastic up with a scotchbrite pad and cleaned them with a solvent before painting.

I have all my panels painted, I used SEM products to prep and promote adhesion. Its a big job if you want the surface smooth as the Nytro has alot of texture. It has held up good, a few spots that tent to see alot of abuse have some stress cracks on the paint but over all it still looks fine, we ride them hard so I dont expect it to stay perfect.
