Same corner that claimed a chum a few weeks ago has taken another life. This time it was a well experienced 53 old Ottawa Ont. grandfather sledding with his 2 sons. This is a bush trail that is 100 miles from any towns, what is the odds of 2 people getting their necks broken at the approx.the same time 7:30PM on a Saturday night within a few yards of each other??? There is something seriously wrong here. I can smell a law suit!!! :o|

Law suit????? For what having a turn in the trail? I think there it A LOT more here then a coner.

Also, my condolences to the families of there loss.

Sorry to hear that Cat Hunter, I take it the trail is in the Ottawa area?

Hopefully the local club(s) can get this spot corrected so no more unnecessary deaths occur.

My condolences

The trail is 1.5 hrs. west of Ottawa close to where I moose hunt and some time sled also.My chums father was at my shop today and it was sad talking about his sons accident. He was content that it was just a accident and try and move on but after the second death famillies will be looking for answers. If the trail does not have proper signage the snowmobile club could have a lawsuit on their hands!!! :o|

Geeez, and I only thought this happened down in the good ol' USA (too many lawsuits and not enough SELF-responsibility for ones own actions). That is why everything is over-legislated down here and the government takes all the fun out of everything.

X4, condolences to the family. Alwasy sdaid to hear loosing a fellow sledder.

You might not want to sue because your more than likely going to loose the trail and when other land owners find out they can be sued for an accidents nobody will let trails go over their property (this is happeningin the u s ) instead figure how not to let this happen again by more signs or something along those lines you just don't want to sue I'm sorry for your loss

Unless you're wearing the shoes of those who have lost a loved one, it's really not fair to question whether or not you'd sue. Burning your tonque with hot coffee from McDonalds and suing versus someone dying because of "possible" neglience is far from the same thing. And I'd go as far to add that losing a trail is probably the furthest thing from a grieving persons mind.

Your right I've never been in those shoes but this is ride at your own risk sport . I'm not being cold a fellow snowmobiler lost their life that's sad . What you have to do is find what went wrong and fix it . Unless someone dug ahole it was an accident . That's the problem in the u s. To many people are sue happy and they lay blame on someone else . I'm NOT trying to make light of the situation . Imo its not a sueing situation . Evevybody that straps on a helmet knows there's a chance you'll get hurt . I'm truely sorry they lost a loved one and if it happend to me its the risk I take when I strap on a helmet . All of this is just my opinion

You're absolutely right. I hate this suing culture that we're developing, where we're always trying to blame someone for every accident that happens, but for a grieving family I understand that you can't tell them not to sue because the trail might close. In all likelihood, they'd think that was a good thing.

That is sad to hear...we had a 23 year old hit a man and wife on the weekend up north ..and they said they were probably going to charge the kid with man slauter...they have wittnesses that said speed was a factor..so this is going to be a court case..why must we race on the weekend..I think I heard they had 2 kids..As I have said before..dont slow down...but drive more responcible..a time and a place for everything..and raceing on the weekend is not the time or place..not sure how many died this year in quebec..but its more than 5 now..No law suits here..you cannot sue someone in quebec like that..no fault insurance.. ;)

Your right,my wife and i were riding last sat. near our camp, nice day, trails hard and flat after a hard rain, and the start of school vac.,so lots of sleds out,and a lot of fast out of control sleds on my side of the trail, now i was only putting along because of riding for the first time this year with my wife, but it seeme like every time i take her out, some butt head comes over a rise and around a corner on our side of the trail, and scares the crap out of her,hey i drive very hard when out with the boys to,but just slow down in those tight, cant see around the corner trails, and yes they were kids standing up on there new revs, and i am not picking on the young or rev riders, but it just seems like its more of them doing it,than us on the sit down sleds.

My condolences.

At every intersection, red signs warn "ride at own risk". We also sign a section to that effect when buying our passes. I feel sledding is the most risky and dangerous thing that I have ever done. After many near misses by oncoming yahoos and blowing some corners I sometimes wonder why I keep sledding. I guess I just love the snow and winter, so I accept that risk. Be defensive, be safe!
