We are encouraged on our clubs website to report any possible problems/hazards. I've done it with a fence line, the problem was corrected that same day!

If they sue, I hope the families of these 2 get nothing.
I never said there should be a lawsuit, I actualy said "I don't think anyone would be successful in suing the club" and nor should they be.
I am fully aware that i (and everyone else) ride at my own risk and that anything is possible. It is just my opinion that the club should have at least tried to mark a cliff a little better. After one incident at the same spot it is obvious to me that their is an issue here and the club did not do anything and everything in their power to avoid another accident, to my knowledge.
I very much so enjoy riding and like Sled Dog said: "If snowmobilers start lawsuits against snowmobile clubs then our sport is doomed!" so why would i do that?

That's the difference between the US and Canada where we don't have frivolous lawsuits because people don't take responsibility for their own actions. If I'm speeding on a trail and kill myself, no amount of signage will prevent that and the courts (Canadian ones anyway) will recognize that. If two sledders are killed at the same known problem spot and there is no evidence that speeding was involved in neither of them, was there negligence involved? We also had a kid recently who bought a brand new Nytro, went down the road and killed himself. He broke a telephone pole in half! Was Yamaha or the dealer that sold him the sled responsible or negligent? No.
And rapeape, how long would it take you to sue a sledder that was speeding through your property and killed (insert name of loved one here) and/or turned you into a paraplegic?

Well said Mooseman. I am totally against suing in this matter and no amount of money will bring these guys back!!!I am going to ride my sled this weekend to check out the corner first hand and use my own judgement as to what happened.Mooseman said:That's the difference between the US and Canada where we don't have frivolous lawsuits because people don't take responsibility for their own actions. How old are you? This has to be one of the most immature statements I've seen on here.
Sled Dog said:If snowmobilers start lawsuits against snowmobile clubs then our sport is doomed! My condolences too the families but we all must take responsibility for pressing the fun flipper and ride to arrive. I like that motto "Ride To Arrive" that motto I am going to use while on my bike as well.
This is exactly what I was trying to say well put sled dog

Just wondering what time of day were these two accidents?Cat hunter let us know what you think when you go check this out. This is my point without arguing with anyone but being that cathunter is going out there and maybe reporting things back to us he can be held responsible if there is (god forbid ) another accident and he didnt do anything for example caution tape, getting ahold of someone to stop this trail going that way ect. lawyers will come up with anything trust me.I'm afraid to put a beware of dog sign on my property because god forbid my dog seriosly hurts someone who is trespassing they would say I knew that dog was dangerous in their eyes.OH! by the way my dog is an angel thats how bad it is trust me. I hope I don't ever do anything stupid to put my family through what I can only imagine what these people are going through. God bless them all!!!

Going to chime in here at the risk of being torn apart. It is always sad when a loved one, friend, or aquantence, is injurred or worse killed performing a sport we all love so much. The same can be said for moto-x, motorcycle riding, ATV, football, etc, etc. Nobody ever gears up at the beginning of the day and thinks this could be the last time they gear up but it happens and unfortunatley it always will. In my opinion, father of two, when I suit up for a day of riding I do what I can to make sure I come home to my family. However as much as I ride in control, stay to the right, obey signs, etc I can't control what others may be doing on the trails or what mother nature may throw my way. I've had numerious close calls from others not staying in control, riding right, or obeying signs, etc, etc, and many close calls with mother nature (i.e. - wildlife walking out in front of me or around a corner) that worries me most of all.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm sorry for the loss of your pals but deep down inside we all know this sport comes with risks and we have to except that. Lawsuits do have there place but it's up to those parties involved to search themselves and ask if this accident was just that...an unfortunate accident that is part of the risk we all take or were the individuals not riding under control or making poor decisions or was there other outside factors contributing that enhanced the risk...

billymx815,
That logical response will get you torn apart on here by, well, at least one member. Why, because it's exactly what we've all been saying. Your description is spot on by clarifying an accident as opposed to one possibly happening with negligence. Oh, and don't expect to ride anywhere near Brookville, Pa. now.

Deaths
17 deaths in Quebec this season to date
5 drowning
10 on marked trails
2 off trails
Most dead this year average 45 yrs old
Most accidents were at night.
I believe is still four short of last year but the late start had alot to do with the numbers so far.
Its dangerous stuff.
Adrenaline is why we ride.

I wonder what the percentage is in number of registered sleds? Then compare that to the same percentage for cars for the same time period. Also wondering how that compares to Ontario and our supposedly stricter signage rules?

Around by us, it's guys on roads, lakes, places they shouldn't be! Think we lost one last night up in the UP, from around here.
