Detailing your Nytro?

I was detailing up my 09 Nytro last night and I was really frustrated with my results. Tried the Turtle Wax ICE on the plastic and it looked like hell. I used some polish on it first trying to get some light scratche out with not much luck. What other products / experiances out there are there. Also I was trying to protect and lightly polish my tunnel trying to get some salt and white oxidation spots (battery leaked) out. Maybe I'm being to finicky IDK HELP!

Almost impossible to make Yamaha blue plastic look nice. The more you mess with it the worse iy will look. IMPO

No doubt. What I did didn't make it better, that's for sure. I was thinking about buying some of Arctic Cat windshield scratch remover. I used it on my GSXR windshield and it worked great. Made it look new again. Nothing worked better. I guess I'll do some before and after pics. Tearing my skid out now for revalving my shocks.

i cant believe "ice" wrecked it. I've been using that stuff for years now. The trick is you have to use the sh!t out of it i guess????

how would ice make it look bad? also id recommend not using wd-40... if it can penetrate into steel to free up rust and what-not, think of what thats doing to the plastic! also, i would say keep the household products away from the sled. You have a brand new sled why wouldn't you use the stuff that is specifically designed to shine/protect your new toy? its your sled, but it just makes me cringe when ppl are all this other stuff on it, just to make it shine... for a little bit... anyways on that rough black plastic use "back to black" by mothers. its good stuff.

OK the ICE didn't make it look horrible but it seemed to accentuate the scratches instead of mask them like a good wax will. It also seemed to leave a haze on the finish. Weird because I use ICE on my other sleds with good luck, the ICE product just wouldn't wipe clean. I'll take another shot at this tonight. No Pledge although I don't think it would hurt it and I'll use WD-40 on all my engine parts and A arms at years end to keep things from oxidizing. I used pledge on dashboards in the past and it worked pretty good. I'll stick to the car products and protectents though. Maybe Armor All.. I have Mothers Back to Black. No problems there and it works great for a deep shinny black! Your Viper looks awesome! What metal polish did you use, I bought some mothers mag and wheel polish (good for aluminum too). Did you wet sand it first? Looks like it. Looks great!!!

The main reason the Nytro plastic looks like crap compared to older Yamaha sleds is this: The older sleds, Viper, SRX, SXR, V-max, and RX-1, all have fiberglass type hoods. The Nytro's have a Polypro hood. Poly is a soft flexiblie plastic, which will scratch alot easier that the older glass hoods of the past. These hoods are quick, easy and cheap to make. IMO the best thing to do is slap a decal kit on it right from the getgo. another option you can do is make templets and cut your own clear vinyl decals to cover your colored plastic. I am working on this for my Nytro that I painted the plastic white. I hope it will keep from scratching the paintjob, it takes alot of time and mockup to make your templets, but as long as you lable them and keep them, it would be worth it. Oh yeah, Black Magic Tire Foam works good to shine up your plastic. Good Luck!

You're right! I know it's plastic but here I am trying to get it to look like a fiberglass hood.. I'm expecting to look as good as they used to but that's wxpecting way to much... You hit the nail on the head with the decal kit as well. Might be a bit expensice but it gives your sled a one off look and some of the kits are bad #*$&@. I'll have to start researching the vinyl kits out there. Arctic FX and ?? I kniow there is a tread out there somewhere. Then I'll waste my time on something else where I might actually get somewhere. Painting it wouldn't be bad either but I hate to do something where I couldn't make it stock again without ease. Cosmetically that is.

no, i didnt wetsand it. But when i bought it it had been polished before. I just redid it with mothers mag and aluminum polish. Ive been workin on my nytro with polishing the tunnel. I wetsanded with 1000 and polished the crap out of it and can still see the scractches from sandpaper, gotta go with a finer grit.

start with 1000 grit then move to 1500 and finish with 2000....scuffs and scratches with alway show up..shyt happens
