Was out the other night with member doubleb and another friend enjoying a little ride out for burgers.
At the stop I noticed my sled was sitting lower than it's almost twin doubleb's Attak. Same setup all around.
Said a few bad word and looked under into the skid. Could not see why with all the ice in the skid but was fairly sure what was wrong as this happened the season before. Next am as the sled had dripped dry I got to take a peek as to why is was sitting low. Another broken Big Boy spring.

Why???????????? This is the second time within 800 miles I have a broken spring. Anyone else ever run into this?
The spring is from Pioneer Perf and Bruce being the stand up guy that he is replaced the first broken one free of charge.
I think I had 300 miles on it. Now I need another one but my confidence in trying to get another one from PP is a bit on the low side. Twice bitten 3 times shy?
Everything in the skid is working well and is as it should be. Only 500 miles on the shock rebuild. I am not launching 10 feet in the air with this sled.

Does your shock have any comp/rebound adj? If not the spring alone won't fix things.
In the first pic it looks like you have the spring on its stiffest setting, if so you need a stiffer spring rate still. But upgrading to a shock that has r/c settings would help a lot that way you can control the stroke in stead of relying on the spring.

It has the stock RA (rebound adjustment) on the shock. The spring is set on the second clip middle perch which is in the middle of the preload adjustments that can be made.
That spring is also a 6.5 vs the stock 5.0 Lots of spring for my 180lb butt.
Both springs have broken in almost the exact same place. So its either something on my skid, my setup or a manufacturing process error.
Doubleb's sled is setup like mine. The only difference is his is a 6.0 spring (from Yamaha) I believe. He has not broken his spring and I have gone thru two now.

Are your springs from Yamaha, is there stock valving in the shock. Are you bottoming out on this shock at any point, especially when jumping. Do you and DB ride in the same manner, ie; general vs aggressive. I would still recommend a shock with both compression and rebound it seems to me you are blowing through the stroke on the way down. To now for sure besides seat of the pants feel always put a small ziptie on the shaft of your shocks, it acts like a shock travel tool, that way at a glance you will know exactly how much travel you are using or bottoming out as the ziptie will be at the bottom out bumper. Sorry to hear about the spring problem I hope it hasn't kept you off the trail for too long.
