All done in one season.

That's is so far but much more on plate for this year!
I have been building custom helmet speakers now the last few years. I have done them in different styles helmets with different brand helmets with different brand speakers.

Helmet brands used so far, Fly, Arai, and Scorpion. Speakers tried so far are Skull Candy, Sony and now Beats by Dre. This was the first set I converted to bluetooth that were not.

I have also upgraded a few pairs of speakers on Bluetooth helmet systems that cheap out on the most important thing the SOUND QUALITY!

This is very frustrating and time consuming. I would only say attempt it if you are real confident being I would hate to see anyone spend the money and not be able to pull it off after all that.

I added the rechargeable Bluetooth dongle with on and off switch exposed and same with charging port. I had all here but headphones. Ran my solider tip on Grinder so very precise for soldiering to the board.

I saved headphone enclosures and reused them. Upgraded the cheap little wire that came on speakers. Hot glued wires in place after I dropped more solider on board to compensate for bigger gauge wire when soldiering it back down to the chip board. Had to bore holes bigger to clear for bigger wires on headphone enclosures.

Don't even ask how i routed all the wires to have all end up in place it did! Lol. Took 5 plus tires to nail routing down so was satisfied. I like clean stealth look. Can't see any wires or blue tooth dongle and it should be tuck in warmest spot possible on helmet I think. The speakers I was able to slip inside the cheek pads behind the felt so works perfect in that regard otherwise put felt over them normally if not. Can't tell helmet is wire unless it's off and U look inside really.

Test of time to come this winter. Just hope it's loud enough. If not I will buy a headphone amp and go wired with a single wire from helmet to jacket.

If you have any questions, opinions, feedback, criticism its all welcome! HOPE THIS MOTIVATES SOME!

Intermediate level DIY I would say.

what did you use for the Bluetooth dongle? I've been having a hard time finding one that should last a full day of riding. I already have good speakers from Rockmeister

How were you able to match them up for impedance compared to the original speakers? And seeing that the Dre's are for "over ear" use, how's the sound if the ear doesn't quite make contact with the speaker?

I have a set of cheap Bluetooth communicators that have really cheap speakers. There are people selling broken Beats on Kijiji so it's possible to find some cheap. It does give me ideas on upgrading them. Thanks!

So I have dealt with ohms since I was a kid and is just resistance. They over build them. Even if not bridgeable from what I have found you can go little lower on ohms but stay as close as possible. I have used skulls candy and they were 32 ohms exactly and think that may be best. Dre beats has many level and styles of headphones. I personally use the Pro's when running yard equiptment. This are big over the ear head phones and take more power. So keep lots of these variables in mind when building. So with that being said I went Dre solo beats that are smaller so fit in cheek pads better. They match power better. Outside ear is better than over ear for this application. My two cents. They don't touch ear but close. Location isn't percentage centered with ear but best I can get in this helmet. Also this open face. Wind noise and pipped sled. So time will tell if loud and long enough bluetooth run time. I bought my dongle on eBay.

Categories= electronics, buy it now, priced lowest to highest, scroll to first dongle and will be cheapest online Prob? I do that with ebay and Amazon. Most the time will be one or the other for best price. Some site vendors here are real good with stuff also.

Upgrading bluetooth speakers was easier than this. Over the ear speakers being bigger take more power so will distort less but not have the volume. I have done most scenarios already so feel free to ask. Upgraded the Cardo Systems Sala Rider G4 mainly. Scala won't mount on moto helmet right which led me to this project.

These singles are rechargeable and if you keep cord on power stays on. So worst case add the $10 marine 12 volt acc plug I did and bam now can charge it or have one wire to helmet if dies for a bit or charge at bar when u eat. Will post links to dongle and 12 volt plug.

Any cheaper and they'd be giving them away. What about using an external power pack to extend play time instead of hooking up to the sled?

Great idea. Also may try a headphone amp if they aren't loud enough also. That's my long term plan if needed. Test of time will tell. Face ask will dampen sound also.
