Do I really need the Battery Tender quick connect?

I know the "Jump start" cord hangs out for easy access in the even of a dead battery, but I was wondering since I have the air box off, if it would be good for to attach the Battery Tender Quick connect plug directly to the battery, or is that overkill.

Could I get away with hooking the tender to just the Jumper connections?

What have all of you done on your Vectors?

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but what are people using for a battery tender? Is a two amp trickle charger all you need?

I have the battery tender quick connect right to the battery, I love it. I just take the hood section off and plug it in and leave it. This is on an Apex.

I leave the sleds on the Optimate waterproof charger/tender all winter at camp. excellent unit as it charges, maintains, and desulfates. I added the quick connect and ran it to my handlebar pad so I can just plug and unplug. slick as hell....

I have used the Battery Tender Junior on 2 - 2006 Vectors since new, still have the original batteries and last I checked, they are good as new. When we're not riding them, they're on the tender, works great. I just aligator clip them to the jumper leads, works fine.

Whenever i puts mine in the garage, i just hooks up to the jumper leads. Only ever needs to be on there 2 hrs. A good battery is a must in Labrador

Lots of battery options out there. Most all are good. Good battery "tenders" are a set it and forget it convenience item -- just hook the dled's battery up to the tender and walk away. Can leave on indefinitely if you want even. I use an Optimate 4, but there are lots of options. I think they help alot.

The quick connects are nice because you just leave the leads on the sled and then just plug the quick connect in when your done riding. Like SXLover, I use my regularily and I like the plug in feature. It's just really easy and convenient.

I have a quick connect under the hood and when not hooked to the charger, it connects to wiring that powers 12volt visor and GPS plug on the handle bars.

I recommend the quick connect for the BT. The jumper cable leads really need to be taped up and ty-wrapped down. Previous owner of my sled wasn't paying attention when he closed the hood and caused them to short together, creating enormous heat to the point that he melted a one foot section of the hood and had to replace it. Cable leads are well wrapped in tape now and I use the quick connects, and they do double duty connecting my heated gloves (I use on my MC) as with the grip warmers, inside of your hands get toasty while the outside (knuckles especially) freeze so I turn grip temp to low and use the gloves.

I bought an Optimate charger from Amazon for about $30.00 ( same charger that is in the Yamaha catalog for a bit more)
I also installed the charger leed to the battery, which is a pain to get to, but nice to have.
