Does track tension need to vary if you have studs?

I know that manual wants about an inch with 22 #'s on the track, and I have read many posts about tighter/looser. But I am wondering if you're running studs, does the track need to be tighter.

If the track rachets, that means it has moved at least 3/4" off the cogs, which is 3/4" closer to the heat exchanger.

I have the marginal wheel kit, and I am getting ready to stud my track and looking for input if those that have studded a Nytro run it tighter because of the studs.

And yes I could "not" stud, but I have the scars to prove why I want to studs.

Good question, I never thought of that I put studs on my track and left it at the factory settings.

I run with studs and have the track on the looser side of spec. It has never ratcheted. I have the Woody's 1.375 megabytes if I remember correctly all down the middle with double backers

I have the Woody's also and run factory spec. No issues in 4500 miles.

In reality yes it is pushing the track instantaneously out about 3/4" or whatever the cog tooth height is. id run it as you have it and when your on some hard pack going about 10-20 mph go wot and if it doesn't ratchet id leave it.

I cant say what my exact tension was but the only time i ratcheted with my studded 121 was on launch or super late in the year climbing a hill on super wet snow. Thats didnt pick the heat exchanger and was fine after i tightened it up a little, i ran that sled about 1 finger with no weight pulling on it once i tightened it as it was much more before that.

The only Nytro i know around here that lost the Heat exchanger was my buddys because a stud stuck on wood and tore the track a little then he started dumping coolant, luckly i was behind him and we were coming to a stop sign so he shut it down before kicking the light and saved the engine.

and hey if the heat exchanger ever does get hti and leaks just another reason to buy a mtx one and dump the oem front one.
