Going to be racing on a snow covered lake, 06 Apex GT, as far as performance, all stock except for Pioneer Performance Clutch kit. Just wondering if anyone has played with secondary spring adjustments or made any adjustments to suspension that were beneficial. I will be trail riding to get there so not planning on doing anything crazy, just want to make Yamaha 4 strokes look the best that I can. ;)!

Turn the transfer rod to max, adjust rear shock to full soft & tighten track. Don't just whack the throttle (unless you have really long studs) or you just spin for 200'+. Roll into as rapidly as possible without track spin.

I wouldn't mess with the clutching.

Yes rod to the max and loosen the limiter straps all the way !

I like a looser track and tite snow with a good base !

I know this sounds crazy ,but when i throw amber on the back 120lbs dressed we have real sick grip out of the hole to about 500-660ft !! im serious !!

They really hate it when you beat them with an extra person !

Have a great eye and thumb too !

are you planning to run across the whole lake or 500ft? lower your limiter strap and front suspension. get down out of the wind, believe me i know. you can gain 4-5mph over guys who sit upright as a wind drag.

Yes .but i believe he wants to be Quick>>> not Fast >>> :flag: :flag:

Last year when I was out there we were running a rough estimated 660', I would say it was closer to 600'. Hole shot was key last year, I was on my Bone stock RX1 with carb Sync way out of wack, could beat Apex's one run and lose to a 440 the next run. My limiter strap is all the way out now, my control rod is in the mid range, I was planning on setting it closer to max and debated taking some preload out of the front shocks. I appreciate the responses!

I just wanted to update those of you who posted, held my own yesterday! We raced 660', the lake was hard packed snow and ice, My limiter strap was already all the way out, adjusted to about 90% max transfer, took some preload out of my front shocks, set the clickers to full soft in the front, and my shock in the rear I set to 3 bars from full soft (when it was all the way soft I had too much ski lift) I was able to beat all but 3 sleds at least once. 2 of those were 200+ hp drag sleds, the other was an older 800 storm polaris that had 2 times the studs I did. There were a few newer Doo's 800's and a 1200, a couple firecats, my buddies 700 switchback that is far from stock, most races he was about a sled length behind at the end, sometimes a sled ahead. My best race was getting called out by a new Pro R Rush 800, the guy was talking trash to people saying the only way he would lose to an Apex was a race all the way across the lake. I fired the ole girl up and told him lets go, I thought it would be closer than it was, I got him right from the hole. When I hit 40 he was 3 sled length behind and 5+ behind in 660'. He never came back, kept running down the lake and left. :tg: I love this sled!

Congrats on the strong showing. There are some people out there that think the Apex's aren't that strong in a drag race or at high speed. I'm not one of them. Several years back when I first got my 06 GT (all stock at the time) a friend of mine had a 99 srx with some mods (clutch kit, bender cold air kit, and supposedly ported) it was no match in acceleration for my GT. Never had a chance to try em at high speed.

Another buddies zr 900 cat was no match either. The only sled that ever beat me even up was a friends 05 Mach Z. And my sled was completely stock at the time, as was his. Funny thing though, his Mach was back at the dealer probably 5 times or more that first Winter for fuel related issues. Even carried a box of brand new plugs around with him in case the damn thing wouldn't start. Which it often wouldn't, then we would have to wait for him to change 2 plugs so he could get the thing runnin. Not what I would call impressive performance. My 06 has never seen the light of a dealers service area. Of course I do all my own maintenace. Never did get another shot at beating that Mach once I got some mods done. Guy was so disgusted with it he sold it.

Very impressive for a mostly stock sled. I'm thinkin a few more mods and some added traction and even those other 3 sleds may be within reach!
