I was going through my RTX the other day and noticed that the drive belt is sitting nearly 1/8" below the top of the secondary clutch. I believe spec states that it should sit just above the top of the clutch.

The sled is an '07 and only has about 600 miles on it. Has anyone else noticed this on their sled? I was surprised to see that it appears to be out of adjustment already. I believe the fix for this is to pull the secondary off and place some spacers. I assume you can get spacers at your dealer??

Thanks for any input!

That is correct. you need to add washers to the secondary. I have seen them delivered new that way. Maxdlx

mine was setting down as well so i added another washer (shim) to bring the belt back up a little. you can use small evenly size washers instead of buying the .05 or .10 shims. yamaha dealer quoted me .30 ea. for the .05 shim so its not too expensive either way.

My dealer said that all looked ok for them but I purchased 3 each of the two washer sizes anyway. yes some pics as to where the shims are placed would be helpful. would shimming the Sec. help prolong the life of the belt and does shimming change the RPM's at all?? I did notice that my belt always seems to sit a bit low. You shouldn't need to pull the Sec. off just pull off each bolt correct?

you do have to pull the sec off as the 3 8mm bolts are on back. if the belt is sitting at the correct highth(1.5mm above to .05mm below the secondary sheeves) then it shouldnt need shims. if the belt is too high or too low it changes the rpms a little.

as the belt wears...it will sit lower..the shims will make up some of the difference to get you to the top..
if your belt is sitting lower than it should be...it's like starting out in the wrong gear...
one of the reasons for wear is the hard belt surface of the 8dn coupled with the lack of squeeze in the primary ..
Heelclickers solve this problem!

Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like the issue is not too uncommon and rather easy to fix. Appreciate it!

if you want more control without having to mess with the washers in and out..
I have a maxximum belt adjuster for sale in the classifieds!

I noticed the same with the belt height in the secondary. I purchased the shims from the dealer. I found when I installed them the belt dropped even lower in the secondary. What am I doing wrong????

might be sitting lower cause you most likely installed in the shop?..need to rotate the clutch a few times so it can backshift
