Would like to know what you guys use for a bearing on the drive shaft pto side.I've been using nsk's that the yamaha dealer sells and i think there a piece of crap.Yamaha used to put Koyo bearings, but now (junk)........

if you have the bearing number off the side any bearings supply store will be able to get you a different manufacturer.

Good ones are Timken and SKF.

I know some of the cheaper brands are using a stainless steel alloy, and not 52100(a non stainless steel) like many timken bearings. I'm wondering if a stainless alloy bearing may have a longer life since I think corrosion gets the best of these??

Just keep pumping GREASE in to it every so often and it'll last forever...no matter what type of bearing you use they won't last if you don't keep MOISTURE/WATER out of it...its a POOR design on YAMAHA'S part and we have to live with it :o| :o| :o|

greasing

How and where do you put the grease in the bearing. I have my left side cover off now so maybe I should hit it.
Thanks

I recently did mine buy unbolting the speedo sensor, and bearing retainer, carefully poping out the bearing seal(small screwdriver), and then just repacked with grease, and reinstalled the seal.
