Just loosen the track tension all of the way. Soak the ID of the bearing / collar with penetrating oil and hope that the Torx set screws in the collar come out without breaking off your Torx bit. (been there done that). Unless it is really seized onto the drive shaft it should come out fairly easy.

FYI, the sled will shut down when the secondary driveshaft bearing has about 30 to 50 miles left in it.
In order to limp home you need to disconnect the speedo sensor.
It never hurts to change the bearing but it sounds more like a burnt belt to me.

i would be more with rice burner on this one if it was the berring it would happen many times for one rotation of the track not a few the belt would be a few time per rotation on the track and they can make a whole lot of ruckus. also much easier to change and try.

Yes, but if it has the plastic cap on the drive shaft you will melt it.

bearing
Just finished it up. Test ran it in the shop, I can't feel the notches anymore. However old bearing didn't feel to bad, but obviously that's without a load on it. Going to test it now. I'll report back, cross your fingers.

The newer Apex models have this cap p/n 8FN-47377-00 as shown in my picture above that protects the inward seal on the speedo side drive shaft bearing from being damaged by ice build up. I added it to my '07 Apex when I replaced my bearing last year.

I'll have to look into this in the off season.
I did some general inspections/clean up in prep for a trip this coming week with the wife. I adjusted the parking brake, which did nothing prior. I also found it interesting that the brake rotor is on the outside of the case cover, vs what i'm used to seeing on Cat's which is on the inside of the case. Looks like there is indeed three bearings for the chaincase then. Upper and lowwer, and one that supports the brake rotor. My brake rotor bearing looked a bit rusty. May have to look into changing that one out in the off season as well.......

Yes, there are three bearings in the chaincase. I replaced all of the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings & seals last year. Here are some links to some of my posts on the subject that you may find useful.
