My heat exchanger got a stud through it and I didn't realize it until I trucked it home.

We were going through trials/fields, when it originally got a temp warning, we stopped, sled stalled out on it's own, waited about a minute to let it cool, and it fired up again and the light was off for a minute or two while she kept going. There was no sign of coolant or oil leaking at this point, no smell. She was going through fields to keep it cool as we thought it was just a warmer day out, maybe it's having a hard time staying cool as it happened before when the trails are groomed and we just got a constant speed. Usually you can just hammer down and the sled will kick up snow to cool.

The next time we stopped is when we smelled something, like oil burning. My partner stopped and the sled stalled out on it's own. At this point, we knew something was wrong as engine and oil reservoir was hot. Oil was pissing out. We towed it home and did not try to start it. Between the first and second stop, it was probably 5-10 minutes.

When we got home, the coolant was empty at the radiator, but the reservoir was still full. No hoses were off, no cracks in the block, etc. However, there was oil in the airbox and it was milky, but when we drained the oil from the tank, it wasn't milky whatsoever. We were down about 0.2 to 0.5l. However, it did not look like coolant mixed too much, but I know any is not good. It was more oil than coolant though. The dipstick also broke at the bottom and expanded a bit, making it hard to get out.

Chances my Yamaha Nytro engine is cooked? I am going to get the radiator fixed, not sure what other steps I should take before testing again. We cleaned up the oil/coolant obviously.

I have found that one or 2 miles without coolant and there is damage done.

I’d suspect that the head gasket is toast, and the head should be checked for warping.
