well, here it is.
I was out at night running my 08 RTX Nytro in some really deep powder, almost 3 feet of soft granular - ran maybe a tank of fuel through it but some hard RPMs, weather was cold - prolly -30 C
tried to start next day - no oil pressure code 30
bring home, pull sensor out of oil cooler and some almost frozen stuff came out like it had lined something inside the cooler.
scratched my head.
put it in shop and thawed out
check oil again - not dangerously low but smells kinda funny.
start - no code 30, runs rough.
turn off and drain oil - it's kinda weird almost milky dark beige? I'm sure my wife would correct me on the colour.
anyway I ran a couple of new litres in, started and ran up for a couple mins and drained, same result.
checked my coolant reservoir - is good and bright green, no oil mix or color.
check radiator cap - nice bright green no smell right to the top full.
pour in a couple more litres of rinse oil, start and run a couple minutes.
drain, same color as before, almost milky appearance.
my coolant is still fine and hasn't dropped a bit (I penciled the line initially)
I'm going to get some more rinse oil but this could get costly. 5 litres of synth and looking at more? eek.
It seems to me like somehow I got either water or fuel or a mix of both into my oil somehow. does this make any sense?
anybody have any suggestions?

Milky oil = water or coolant in oil.

Now that you've rinsed it a couple times, I would fill it up and let it run, Idling, until it gets up to temp. Let it get good and hot and it will help evaporate all the moisture out.
Thats what I would do. Sounds easier and cheaper than ten rinses

I'd be concentrating on how the water got in there, not just trying to get it out. Seems like you must have something serious wrong somewhere.

I would probably surprise you how much condensation would occur at those temps on the inside of the oil tank..

So I rinsed it a couple more times and things seem to have cleaned themselves up.
I just don't get where the fluid came from in the first place. guess that's why i posted this.
gonna go for a couple clicks worth of slow steaady ride tomorrow then dump and rinse again.
Are you yanking my chain with regard to condensation on the inside of the cooler tank?
and this machine has seen hard -45 -50 C days, long ones. maybe not quite what it went through that day but never had this kind of trouble ever before. I love my yamahas...this one especially.

Condensation is no joke, nine 2 nine might have nailed it. I had the same thing happen on a ds 650 4 stroke quad. Talked to 2 mechanics both said condensation. Changed oil and no problems since. If no other leaks of anti freeze etc. then I'd say maybe temps or sitting for extended time in storage was your condensation culprit.

I wonder if maybe some powder was introduced through the airbox? Make sure it's fastened properly from the last service, etc...

cylinder leak test if u have the capability. add air to the cylinder and see if you get some coming out of the coolant resivoir. If u dont have the capability, take her in and have them check it for you. sounds like its getting in somewhere. at least if u dont see anything u know the head gasket is ok.

That was my guess as well. in your post you mentioned heavy powder riding. the crank case vents into the air box; maybe somehow snow entered the air box , melted and made its was to the crankcase. thanks for the advice you guys, going to have a serious look at the air box and associated parts, if I find anything will update you, otherwise many thanks!
