Well, I have been tesitng these filters for a week now and finally I think I have got them set up pretty well. Right now I have the needles as rich as they can go, the fuel screws turned out 3.5 turns (Stock 2), and am running 170 mains. With the setup that came with the filters it seemed to run very lean with not a whole lot of difference over the stock airbox but once I riched things out it rocks. One thing that made a huge difference was the fuel screws. I had a bad lean pop when you would nail the throttle. Turning them out to 3.5 turns took care of that.

I am running the silver springs right now. Mighty, I think you said you are running the red springs with good results maybe I should try those and see if there is any noticable change with them. Yesterday I was out and put on 135 miles on and only took 8.2 gallon. That is 16.46 miles per gallon. I think I may still be a little lean for the cold conditions we have had this week (-5 Deg while riding yesterday). I installed the new style plugs that Freddie is selling with his kits. I ran 135 miles and there is still no color on them. They are white as a ghost! Either it takes more that 135 miles to color the plugs or I am sill running very lean. What do you guys think?
 

I am running the kit with 165 mains and red springs and the day I rode it she flew :D It was around 30 degree's and the throttle response was nothing but awesome. No flat spot, noises no nothing. A few days later I got the new plugs and noticed that the stock ones coming out were a perfect chocalate brown. I haven't rode it with the new plugs yet. It did seem to smooth out the idle a tad.
 
I think you should check your compression. There are variances with regard to cam timing and perhaps you have a "Wednesday sled" with higher compression than many others as a result. The fact that you need a lot more fuel than everyone else is a definate indicator that not all the engines are set up, broken in and operated with strict consistency.

Let me (us) know what your compression is with engine at normal operating temperature.

Mine ran pretty well with the 165's intil the temp dropped to under 10 deg. I found that the more fuel I threw at it the better it would run. By better I mean I had to tighten my track twice in one day because of the increased power as I richend it out was causing the track to skip. I would definely recommend richening the needles all the way and turning you fuel screws out if you have not already. But do this in one day of testing and set up some cones on a lake of field so you can see the difference.
 
Buck, I've got the 175s coming this week. Up here in Manitoba we can see -15-20F for riding and the 165s are not going to do it. I have my needles raised one clip and the fuel screws are stock. I'll see what the plugs look like with the 175s. :)
 
Jaymor, try richening your needles all the way and turning your fuel screws out more. Let me know how it works for you. It is not like the sled ran poorly with the 165's I just did not think it was as much of a difference as it should have been. Turned out I was right. The thing is when I first got them installed I thought it was going to be way better than stock due to the sound maybe but when doing a direct comparison it was not that much better until I through more fuel at it. Now this thing pulls like no end in midrange through top end.

Has anyone else with the ECP kit had to do these types of adjustments or is it dependendt upon your location/elevation?
 
Jetting up to make more power is always more desireable than jetting down to make power. I have stated in the past that these air filters have been tested down to -5 degrees fahrenheit. One thing however that I failed to realize was that was with stock CV springs. The stiffer spring holds the slide down not allowing any mass air flow. Makes perfect sense to have to jet up with the weaker CV slide springs. Glad you all are getting the performance out of this.

I am not sure what fuel screws you guys are talking about,can someone exsplain,where they are located,on normal mickys flat,or roundslides all you have is air screw that works w/your pilots,what is the fuel screw?
 
I've been testing the ECP filters for the last 2 weeks and it works as expected but the plugs (CR10EK) are (very) light brown compared to dark brown with the stock plugs and I'm a little bit concerned about that because it's getting very cold (-20C and less) here for the next week. I will try the fuel screws and then the needle to see if there's a difference!

I do have a question, If the color of the plugs is dark brown and I lean the fuel mixture, is the color going to change to light brown or do I have to put new plugs to see the real color :?: :?:

By the way, My fuel mileage is now about 16 miles per gallon compare to 16.5 miles by gallon stock :)
 
I think we are going to need at least 175 main jets for our climate errol. I will have them installed tomorrow and will update everyone. .You don't need new plugs to see the color change on the plugs. :)
