Anyone heard any advantages or disadvantages on the ecp kit vs. the cpr kit for the rx 1? All i've heard is that the cpr does not include spark plugs, or pre filters, but has evac kit included and is soppose to make more power than ecp. Is there much of a difference running the ecp kit with or without the evac kit? Thanks for your input, Mike

Buy the ECP kit from Freddie. His is a terrific person to do business with and has spent MANY hours perfecting his product. There is far more info on this site about the ECP kit than any others. I doubt if the CPR kit makes more HP than the ECP kit. The evac parts for the ECP kit are very inexpensive and esy to obtain. I am in the process of installing Freddies ECP kit with my version of a frost-proof evac kit.

I went with the CPR kit and delt with both Matt from the Speedshop and Jeff from CPR. Both were nice to deal with and as far as pre filters. I did not order them. Unless you ride deep powder, they are not needed. I did 700 miles in 3 days and was up my buds cats #*$&@ all weekend as he threw dust at me and it was fine.
Just as a precaution I took my screens out and neatly hot glued to the back side some black fiber screen materal that I picked up at the local hardware store just to be safe. It allows good air flow yeat will catch snow dust. It's the same material you would find for a filter in a window A/C unit. It worked and looks good!
Personally I like the Evac kit on CPR's set up. It's a very clean set up and runs liked a raped ape.
I have heard all good about Freddie as well. I just went with CPR's kit after talking to a few people who have used both. Might want to call Matt at the speedshop and chat with him. He sells both set ups I think...
Either kit seems to work well. I think you will be happy with either one...
It REALLY woke it up in the mid range and I did NOT lose anything on top end.

filter kit
I have the CPR. I wish I could give you some good info, but unfortunately I've had a lot of issues with my sled since I had the clutch kit and filter kit installed. I will say that I've talked to both Matt and Jeff and they've tried to help me. I will say at times it's hard to get hold of someone. My biggest issue with the filters were getting them installed. I had a hard time getting them to seat tightly on the carbs. I also had a backfiring issue, which I thought was caused by this. I finally modified the engine snow flap and got them to fit good. Still backfired, so I disconnected the TORS. Hasn't backfired since. I've never gotten the right RPM from the clutch since changing it and am currently working on that. I will say that I really like the sound of the engine with the filters. Hopefully, I'll get the clutching figured out and then I can give an accurate report of performance.

Does anybody have pictures of the CPR kit, in particular the EVAC kit?

Re: ECP vs. CPR kit
RX1Jim,
I bought the CPR supertune kit from Matt at The Speedshop this fall.
This thing wakes up the bottom and mid-range big time - however like some others on TY I have lost a bit of top end - max mph 103 -105 on a hardpacked snowlane at our local lake dragstrip. I have not played with the clutching as our winter here has been so spotty but am over revving at 10600 on the full pull.
The kit picked up about 5-6 hp over stock - dynoed at 142.6hp.
There is a thread from back in November 05 about the cpr kit started by myself - several interesting comments from the tuners and others who have this kit. The dyno graph and pictures of the kit are in that thread but I will post a picture again here in case you can't find it.
My 05 will pull with a new stock Apex to the 660 ft mark but by 1000ft I'm four to six lengths back. A couple of runs I got out hard and got them to 660 but they blew on by. Not exactly what I hoped for but then again they are still up several hp stock and are lighter. Can't change the laws of physics eh?!!
Overall I'm pleased as it is way more responsive at trail speeds and starts and runs as clean as stock. I quess we should all build one for the lake and leave our trail sled more or less alone!
Hope this is of some help to you,
Peter

clutching
Cntrydr, what settings do you have your clutch at? I'm at 3-0 for the secondary and can't even quite get 10,000 rpm out of it. I was told to try 3-1 instead. Unfortunately, that's about as technical as I can get. Matt also told me to do some stuff with the weights, but I need to have the whole thing in front of me to even begin to comprehend what he was suggesting. I'll probably be making a call to him again tonight. I'll agree bottom end and mid range are much better.

Thanks for the pictures of the CPR kit. It is a nicely engineered kit. I like the idea of those aluminum rings, they allow a much cleaner installation on the carbs, right where you need the installation to be clean. Tou want the transition from the filters to the carbs to be smooth. If you just "squish" the filters down to seat on the carbs I think you may pickup some turbulence in the air flow, right where it hurts the most. The CV carb are very sensitive to turbulence at the input. I made a set of these rings for my setup but included the EVAC connection on them as well to clean up the appearance.

Re: clutching
We have talked on the phone a few times about your setup. You originally had a different primary spring in it than the one that came with the kit. Here is were you need to set your clutching for Jeffs filters
Heel= 1/4 and 3/4 allen (make sure you have clearance so the weights can shift out all the way, some of the new HHs are not drilled as deep and I have seen some hit when they shift out. If they do not clear, you may need to file away some material off of the clutch where the allen is hitting)
Mid= 7/16 steel bolt with 1 thick and 2 thin washers
Tip= 7/16 steel bolt with 1 thick and 2 thin washers
Set secondary at 3 and 1 (40 degrees=3 in helix and 1 in clutch)
Is this how you have it setup?

clutch settings
Hey Matt. I was going to call you again tonight, but see I might not have to yet. Please don't take my post as criticism. You've been nothing, but helpful to me. You're dealing with someone who's not mechanically inclined so I appreciate your patience. I was just curious if others were setting it to your specs or if they found something else that did or didn't work. I think I'll give you a call when I get in the shop tonight anyway to give you the full lowdown on what happened with my clutch when I pulled it off last week (the reason I didn't call you back then.)

Your on the right track. Matt helped me with mine and after your fiddle with it a couple of times, if your anything like me, you will be fine tuning and adjusting all the time. Matt is excellent to talk too and has excellent customer service skills. Kits just plain haul the mail.

Go with the original, Freddie spent all the time developing the kit and HE deserves our support and loyalty. ECP ALL THE WAY !!!!!!!!!! Why buy a copy of the filters when you can have the real thing, compare them to each other and you will see what I mean. Very Japaneese Jeff not satisfied with just the clutch kits.

Ummm, I was just curious after seeing those pictures of the CPR air kit. I was e-mailing back & forth to Freddie back in the fall of 2003 and he (Freddie) sent me some pictures (to tease me) about these velocity rings to put into the kit to improve air flow. I could be wrong but those rings in Jeff's kit look almost identical to the pictures I saw from Freddie. So I was wondering if Jeff (From CPR) came up with these on his own, or does he get them from Freddie AND my big question is how do they work? Should I add them to my air kit??????..................Cubby

Cubby,
You are right, 2 years ago when I visited Freddies shop to talk to him about his kit he showed me the velocity rings and they look exactly like the ones posted in the picture above. In fact, everything in the pictures look exactly like the combination of Dynarex's and Freddie's work. I say let's support Freddie the way he has supported this forum with his expertise. Look at the volume of questions he has answered on this forum plus the huge amount of his own time he spent on developing the kit. Personally i think sales of the filter kit should have been left to Freddie and the clutch kits to Jeff. Freddie is a terrific guy, he has answered a ton of my questions without ever giving me the brush off. He is really dedicated to the performance industry and not in it to make a fast buck. Freddie's shop is 75 min. from me and I'll drive out there any time to buys parts and service from him.
