Effect of 8 in. rear whls. on Rx1 m10

I was told by someone in the know that by changing the stock m10 rear wheels to the 8 in. wheels will take at least an inch off the suspension stroke. I put on the offset axle which uses 6 3/8 in. in the center 2 wheels and 8 in. on the 2 outside wheels. Any opinions out there from suspension/technical gurus like LB? BTW only the bottom of the 6 3/8 wheels touch the track, this is what the offset axle does.

The wheel itself has no way of affecting suspension stroke except for these two ways;
1) Wheel bottoming out in tunnel,
2) Altered track return angle causing suspension binding.

It doesn't change the angle enough for (2) to make any difference, so IF this is a problem, it would all be in (1).

Now here's the important thing to note;
IF (1) is a problem, then you MUST ABSOLUTELY NOT DO THAT because you'll break things.


Now the big question..... WHY put big wheels on it?

LB- Tx for the reply. Originally, the 8 in. wheels were supposed to give you back the lost top end by going to the m10 from stock. I noticed now the mfgr. of the axle is no longer in business but that does not mean he was wrong about the regained top end. Maybe just a bad business man, who knows. I really have no way of knowing whether I gained or lost but now am going to the air wave addition of the m10 and want to make sure I am able to use all the suspension that is available. When the suspension fully collapses, I would think the 8 in wheels would extend the stroke by 1 in. over the 6 in wheels and as long as there was enough track slack to absorb that extra 1 in extension it would be ok, but Fast said to get rid of the 8 in wheels and put the stock m10 wheels back on (6 in.) Tx for your input.

I agree with fast re original wheels. The size of the back wheels won't help your top end as the problem is with the approach angle. M10 is extremely steep, don't ask me why. Low approach angle is better ALWAYS - its faster, hits bumps more softly, floats better in deep snow, provides for more predictable ski pressure, etc.

LazyBastard - you're right. What you say is exactly what I say to all those who thinks they will run a lot faster going with big rear wheels It's all in the approach angle and ride height when it comes to lakeracing and top end speed.

So million dollar question would be. If your approach angle is good do larger rear wheels help to increase speed?

No, otherwise they would come from the OEM with bigger wheels.

I used an offset axle on my Poo 800 M-10. No difference in speed, primarilay designed to help in deep snow conditions out West. On the kit I got there was no way you could use an 8" wheel. Not enough extra track length to adjust track. Also left a big gap between track and slide rail at point of wheel contact. Total waste of money.
