Engine Oil Filter Question

So I was changing the engine oil filter and oil for a friend on his Apex .
- When I got to the filter found the filter on the engine was a 5GH-13440-50
- The filter to put on ( and what I've always used ) was a 5DM-13440-00
So what is the difference other than length?
Just wondering so I can decide whether to tell him about the filter or not .

Note : He had the service done last year at a dealer who was doing some other work .

Oil filter cross reference lists both of those as replacement filters, plus 110 others. I would say both are acceptable.

they both work on the apex but you can only use the short on the 3cyl, models.
