engine oil in air box

I have a 2006 rs venture that I started today for the first time this season. When I finally got it started I noticed that oil was leaking out of the bellypan. I shut down the engine and traced oil leak back to the air box drain hole. Any ideas as to why?
 
You may have over filled or have the tube underneath the air box off or a plugged line. I'm sure someone will come up with something for you.
 
Did you change the oil filter when you put it up? If so make sure the old gasket came off.. If you didn't then maybe a mouse plugged up an oil line with food. Good luck. MM
 
I had the same problem last winter. Apparently there is a check valve that opens and closes to allow oil to drain back to the tank - this is common with motorcycle engines in case they tip over so oil will not drain backwards. This valve sometimes sticks and this causes the oil to blow out the vent into the air box. Did it twice to me last winter. (real mess) For me also when I shut the sled down and restarted it both times it quit doing it. Mine happened on real cold mornings and I believe it froze shut and the warmth from the engine and oil was enough to thaw it out and that is why it opened when I restarted it. I believe I had a bit of moisture in the valve and it kept freezing it up. I took it in and the dealer checked it out and said there was nothing wrong with the valve but since it never happened after that I think by taking it out in the warm garage and air it dried out and solved the problem. Started it up again this year oon a cold morning and seems to still be OK
Possibly the same problem for you - moisture in the valve causing it to freeze shut and not allow the oil to drain into the reservoir.
 
The hole in the airbox that the oil is coming out of is suppose to be hooked up to the crankcase. There is a line under the airbox that links the two, it likes to fall off upon reassembly.

Yep, that is quite possibly the cause. It sure can puke out quite a bit of oil in a hurry. Happened to me this year after I took the airbox off to put the battery back in. I was really cursing the Yami engineers as it seems like the hose is almost too short. A little bit of slack would sure help get things back together a bit easier, that and if my hands were quite a bit smaller.
