Hey guys I switched to amsoil last season and notice my 03 rx1 started eating oil I know from other post that the 03 tends to eat oil but mine never did. Do you think the change to amsoil may be part of it? What oil do you guys recomend Im going to do a change and filter. Also should I do anything prior to the change I read some where here about an additve from yamaha to clean the motor of carbon?
Thanks in advance! jdp

I never had good luck running Amsoil in anything I have owned.
My p/u, my Grizzly and my xlt went through it like it was going out of style

I have been told it takes a couple changes before the consumption stops but I have also been offered some swamp land before too!
I switched to Mobil-1 with my P/U and Rotella T with my Grizzly and in both cases, all my consumption issues stopped.
My XLT still drinks my Shell Advance (Something going on there?) but it is not at the rate when I was using Amsoil. (probably due to differing thicknesses?)
I am currently running Mobil-1 0W-40 European Formula in my Vector and have had zero issues using it, plus I can get it for $8.99 a Litre on sale

P.S. I also would "NOT" use any type of engine flush in your engine, unless it has been severly neglected!
I am also not bashing Amsoil as others have had zero issues running it, I am simply stating my findings using it and I have come to the conclusion that Amsoil and me do not get along!

You need to buy some Yamaha ring free an do a shock treatment an use it all the time in the gas there is a tech bulletin on this the 03 where the worse if I can find my copy from records I will post it. But it is not the oil It is a carbon an bad gas problem which causes this . There is a good read in snow tech about Yamaha ring free an there new product because of the ethanol gas

I use Amsoil 0-40 no issues with my 05 with 18,000 miles and 16,000 miles of usage. I have used sea foam to clean the motor instead Yamaha Ring free. I think it has the same results.

Yes they will do the same but it cheaper to buy ring free because once it is clean you put 1oz in every tank so a 16 oz bottle last a long time.

I have been through this last year. My 03 eats up the amzoil fast also. I bought some ring free but I am afraid to use it. there are about the same amount of negative opinions as there are positive ones about using it. I will try changing oil first to see if that helps before I try the ring free.
Is the mobile 1 0-40 a sythetic oil?

And it's compatible with wet clutches systems. (no friction modifiers). Not trying to be difficult, just wanting try a different oil than the amzoil and want to use the right stuff in my 03 RX1.

Just curios what you guys call fast consumption?? My attak goes thru amsoil at about 1 oz every 200 miles......so like 5-6 oz in 1000 miles. It really does not bother me, and at 11,000 rpm a lot of that time, I considered it normal. I also know that you guys are talking about an issue with the 03's. Anyway, just curios what you guys are considering "high consumption"??

I can't speak of snowmobile usage but my P/U would use almost a litre in 750 km's give or take.sleddog66 said:Just curios what you guys call fast consumption?? I tried 2 oil chnages with it but noticed it was the same.
My Grizzly used some every ride, and it didn't matter if it was just a small/short ride or an all day one.
