Adding it to the motor will not hurt it I guess, the scavenger pump will just pump it to the tank so it can be sucked into the pressure pump and to the bearings. Seems pointless to do it.
As was said check with dipstick just resting in the hole not threaded in.
I have a problem with cranking a dry motor. Thats why I drop a quart in the top.
Oil that you dump in does nothing but lay in the bottom of the crankcase waiting to be pumped to the oil tank. It does not feed the bearings or lube anything. It just lays there! The pressure pump that feeds the bearings gets its oil from the tank.Your not hurting anything by dumping motor oil into the motor unless its deep enough in the bottom that the crank has to flail away in it.
Unless the motor has been rebuilt its pointless to add oil to the motor. Thats the only time its required to add oil to the motor. All things that need lube are feed from the tank. But again I guess it does not hurt anything! It just seems like an old wives tale started because some people seem to think that the crankcase feeds the oil pressure pump when its the tank that feeds the pump.
