What is the normal operating temp of a stock viper. I'm hearing 165 to 180. That seems high to me since my 600 Rush ran at about 130 to 135.

Don't forget we're talking about a 4 stroke 3 cylinder vs a 600 2 cylinder... plus the coolers on these sleds are much smaller than on your Rush.

Thermostat opens at 167 degrees. Mine runs at 161-165 most of the time. 3300 miles last year.

i would say my thermostat is opening at 161. or gauge is off a bit..

If your natural aspirated viper pushes 180 pull over shut it down and take a break. I think 160-170 IMO.

This is a 4 stroke and they run hotter than two strokes. The radiator does not kick in until 190 +\- 2 degrees. The thermostats on cars are set at over
200 degrees.

I have 2 vipers and regularly saw the radiator kick in at 192-193 and pull the temperature down when we were riding from home to the trails. Never saw 195 degrees but I know there is an overheat protection built into the system. I'll go on the service manual and look for a number but I believe it's 200+ degrees! If I can't find it in the manual I'll call my dealer and get it from them.

Unless there are changes for the 15. This is from the service manual.

Thermostat opens at 167*f
Light comes on 221*f
Light flashes and fuel is cut at 230*f but not as long as your on the gas.

With that said mine runs below 167* while riding but soon as you stop temps go up. Soon as my fan kicks on if I'm stopped for awhile I shut it down.

Without a radiator (radiator delete mod) I run 170 to 174 on the roads with scratchers down. In the powder without scratchers (of course) 160 to 171.

Overheat light flashes @ 221 degrees and fuel is reduced to the engine so that it causes the engine to surge as a notification to the rider that the engine is in overheat protection mode.

At 230 degrees the light goes on solid as a warning that continued operation will cause damage to the engine even in reduced power mode.

So what most of you are saying, I don't have to pull over and take a break if I hit 180 degrees? Lots of new things to learn when you switch brands.....

If you need a break take one, but the Viper does not need it at 180. In the last year I really don't know or remember of anybody archiving above 195 + degrees. With the warning light coming on at 221, 200 degrees should be a good safe number. At 192-3 my sleds run great. 4 strokes are designed to be more efficient as temps rise so just go out, ride and enjoy!

The fan comes on at 190-193 degrees!

Thanks for all the info guys. I haven't looked under the sleds yet, but is there any other heat exchangers other than the radiator. I was told there was nothing in the back end, but what about up front.

The reason I don't go out and look is because I'm sitting on a plane to Memphis and am thinking of all these questions, lol.

There is a cooler in front of the track, nothing on the back and sides of tunnel.

There is a front cooler and you are correct no rear heat exchanger.
