Hey all,
I installed an EPI kit (primary and secondary spring) When it engages, it slams in hard and slips the belt..When you are going and let off the gas, it squeels on deceleration and if you start from a stop on an incline or in deep snow, the belt sqeels and slips very bad..Any ideas on what may be wrong???
Frank.

When u installed the helix in the secondary did you properly innstall the secondary spring & twist it clockwise to tighten it up? Common problem that happens a lot.
Turk,
I don't believe I did that! Will the helix slide back into the secondary if you don't twist the spring? How do you know when it has been twisted enough? Thanks, Frank R.

It takes a fair bit of twist to get the proper alignment & line uo the holes. from the sound of things u didn,t install the secondary properly. Check the tech pages cus i am giving it all up on here.
Yes it il go in without twisting it.
They should have some recommended specs with there kit where to set it at.You have to turn the helix just so the ramp clears the button then push it down.

Man...this happens so many times when guys install their own kits!
Guys,
I definitley didn't twist the secondary spring...Would that cause the belt to sqeel and the sled to engage so hard?
I have installed lots of clutch kits before, its not new to me..If this information wasn't in the installation instructions, how would I know to do it?

yes.That is 100% the problem.
Truth-- When you get it back together, let us know how it works.
Will do guys! I am about to head out there and get wrenching! It is warm and foggy (ugh) but PLENTY of snow left for testing

Guys,
I read the instructions a little closer and it does say to twist it. It says to slide the helix over the shaft and twist it clockwise to clear the next ramp.I am a bit confused. I re did the secondary spring installation 3 times today. I put the spring in the B-1 position and then slid the helix onto the shaft and twist it as far as I can, to get it past the little white plastic pieces in the secondary and every time it is the same. You ride and sometimes it feels ok and then it will squeel on decel and slam back in hard at engagement and sometimes it will slip so bad on take off the sled will barely move for a good 10 seconds...What am I doing wrong?? Thanks again guys, Frank.

I don't think your twisting it enough.Twist it to the next button.

Truth I can Help You I use it in my race Phazer.
1 do you have a fish scale like one you would weigh a fish with, It has the hook on the end? If you do, instal your clutch on the sled with out the belt on and give me the LB rating on the secondary. Hook the back Sheave and bull back on it, till the clutch sheave moves look at the lb rate. and tell me what it is. Should be right at about 20lbs .
The hissing and clunking noise is coming from your primary. I am testing some new springs to correct that. I might end up using the stock clutching for the I500.
My CO worker bought the sled that Glen Erlandson developed the EPI kit with His is not as bad ??
I have my sled tore down right now Preping it for the I500 this weekend we plan on doing some testing with clutch issuse I have.
