Sled has sat for a week, it's -15c here, went to start it this am, telemetry came up on dash, and then a click.......error 12 was flashing. Here is wher it gets interesting.

Called my dealer, he said error 12 is crankshaft sensor, but said it still should turnover, which it wouldn't. He then said use a hair dryer and heat the cellenoid beside the oil tank.

Sounded fishy but sure enough, heated it up and it turned over and ran with no error. His only suggestion was the contacts may have moisture in them and were creating an electrical glitch.

This sled is stored inside, sure I have been plowing through some snow lately but you could hardly call the sledding I have done lately 'BC grade.

Have now run it about 80k today with no issues. Anyone else have this kind of electrical voodoo, totally caught me off guard....what would happen if I were in the middle of no where and this happened.... Interested to hear from others.

This is a common problem with the starter relay. You get code 12 because the ECU is expecting to see the crank sensor while turning over. You'll probably need a new starter relay to eliminate future problems.

Had the same issue last weekend. Sled was in my heated garage most of the fall. Battery charged. Loaded it on my truck the night b4 a trip. It was -20 or so, trucked 5-6 hrs next day, and when I went to unload it....no starty!! Finally after 3-4 attempts w key it started...hmmmm. Ran all day no issues. Next morning....wouldn't start again. Finally did after 3-4 attempts (figured the current going thru relay must have been "thawing" out the contacts....heating them up)

Ordered a new relay on Monday, but in the meantime tried to take out stock relay....tried for several mins. and finally got out with needle noseed pliers...It was so corroded! I greased it very well and will use as a spare when my new one comes in.

Well, there is some comfort in not being alone on this one. Still having a hard time believing this part is exposed enough to happen in the first place.

Can anyone describe which one of the electrical fittings along the oil reservoir is the starter relay? Going to heat it this am, take it apart and grease it.

Thanks
Ms
