Exact specifications

If you go to this site under performance it says the viper will have Yamaha's legendary YVXC clutching. I don't know how they could make it any clearer.

Didn't you start this subject darnello? I would say this is a bashing thread, kind of a reach around bash but still bash none the less...
Anyways yamaha has stated they are using their tried and true button clutches and a/c has stated they are using roller clutches, if yamaha turns around and gives us yamaha guys a/c clutches then there are going to be a lot of yamaha guys not taking delivery of there new sleds, untill the first person shows us a production model, why keep beating the same old dead horse? If a/c uses yamaha clutches then why would you care? Also you stated you would never own another sled without power steering and neither of these have that feature, so I am asking why even care?

Thank you...I don't know why but Daranello seems to want to jump around and throw a little gas on the fire of all the bashing threads regarding the SR Viper? WTF dude lets give the thing a chance, AC has had some issues but like all the Yamaha issues they get blown up on the net.

Well truthfully, I hope I'm wrong....soon we will all know if its a marketing spin or not...... :dunno:

From what I understand this is the lowdown;

Engine (1049) Yamaha on both but Cat electronics on the Cat. This leads me to think Cat plans on Turboing this thing.

Clutches Cat gets the "improved" Cat clutches, Yamaha gets the Yamaha clutches. No shock here other than the cat MAY end up with Yams by the final run. I highly doubt the Viper will have Cat clutches.

Chassis: Obviously Cat for both

Skid: Cat (finally a decent skid in a Yamaha). I think many will be very happy with the results assuming Yamaha doesn't destroy the calibrations.

For this reason it will really show what shock calibration can do for a chassis. The good news for anyone getting the Viper is that the R.R. shocks should work in both.

They're both claiming to use their own clutches. The problem I see with this is Yamaha & cat use a different length belt, unless they're going to move the motor or jackshaft to accommodate each brand- Yamaha will need to come up with a new belt. Which they may do - but it just seems more likely they would share the same clutches.

I just rode the vipers for two hours today and they have yamaha clutchs and 8dn belts they are making a new 8dn belt for next year but lenght is sapposed to be the same as other models use the 8dn belt the sleds are a little slower then a nytro but that is because artic cat does not have the proper gearing yamaha is having custom gears and chains made for the nytro for further testing yamaha says they changed something in the chaincase to fix any issues cat had with there chaincase they don't know if cat is following suit and using there repair for the chaincase or not they also told me in early testing they had cat clutchs on them and only could get 80 miles or so before blowing belts and could not tune them to work with our fourstroke

We piss and moan about Yamaha not spending enough R and D dollars but want them to stay within their standard belt specs? That should net us some great new tech? Belts are cheap, send the specs to Dayco and guess what...a new belt! WTF guys all this speculation is really getting stupid, we have no reason to believe they'll use anything other than what was in the specs.

hmmmmm , Maybe you guys should go read: http://snowmobiles.yamahablogs.ca/2013/ ... the-bag-2/

one of CR reply on Feb 20th was "The engine is built in our factory, identical to Nytro, a long block is shipped to AC, they developed the exhaust system, which exits up front, they use the Synerject ECU to control a closed loop FI system (uses o2 sensor). Our clutches belt and new drive shaft the latter comes from their supplier…Testing / calibration / QA is joint work.. The assembly is done in TRF. Understood – Juries out, cheers cr -"

I think this is what he means (see the inserted commas and space)

Cat is making everything for the viper except the clutches.

The ECU and electronics are all cat, the chaincase and gears and chain are all made by cat. The gears and chain will likely be spec'd stronger then cats 12/13 gears/chain which were china crap.

Cat is said to be sourcing their 14 clutch and chaincase parts all from USA suppliers rather then china. Cat knows their stuff for the last two yrs has been sub par.

I expect the new Viper to be fine with only 135hp, the cat turbos stock(177hp) were mostly decent, but when boosted up(240-260hp) we all saw the poor quality china parts fail. 135 HP with yammie clutches would have been fine even with the current cat china parts.

think of Viper as a zr7000 with good yammie clutches.

Dan

This is the ZR7000....it will have vents in front for the rad below

the latter comes from their supplier. It already been stated in numerous places that it will be Yami clutches. CR was talking about the driveshaft coming from Cat.

I totally understand being skeptical... I am as well... but geez man. You seem to have a really negative attitude towards this thing and want to believe and make everyone else believe this is some vindictive sham yami is trying to pull over on us?

:dunno:
