My FX has 700 miles. I rode it yesterday and all seemed ok. Today I started it to let it warm up and it sounded loud to me during the fast idle. I took it for a ride and was getting some stight crackle or pop during trailing throttle. I let it warm up some more and it sounded normal. I went for a ride of 4-5 miles and it sounded ok.

When the exaust sounded loud, I covered the tail pipe (engine running) with a leather mit to listen for a leak, I did not hear a leak and the exaust did build good pressure and would kill the motor if I didnt let out the pressure.

Do I have a cracked head pipe????

#1 cylinder headpipe is broken clean off flush with flange.

What side has broken on the others????????

Can this be welded??, it is magnetic and appears to be the same material as the rest of the exaust (mild stainless)??

I would think WARRANTY!!!! Not a weld job by the consumer. Talk to your dealer.

I plan on getting a replacement on warrenty, but I would like to ride the sled while I am waiting for the new part to arrive.

I also feel that a GOOD tig weld on this part would last longer than the original. I do not feel like dealing with this again.

The pipe is not TI as far as I can tell (it is magnetic like low grade stainless) I TIG welded the pipe/flange today as well as the #2 head pipe that was not cracked. The welded head pipes look to be alot stronger than stock.

Yamaha can keep their stock POS, I am going to run the welded pipe.

Thanks for yur input.

Mine sounds louder but the sled runs Tits with over 600 miles.... I will ride it until something happens and then let the dealer work on it...

3 year of warranty... Not many compaines do that
