I'm looking at picking up a previously enjoyed excell header and just have a question....I thought I read on here somewhere that there was two versions of that header...one that works with stock exhaust and one that only works with the excell muffler..is that true?? And how do I tell the difference? Thanks....

Yes it's true. The one for the full system has rings welded on where the Excell silencer installs. The one for stock or other aftermarket silencers is smooth, like the stock header.

Are you sure? I think the header is the same. The loops welded onto the header are far enough up the pipe, that the stock muffler should fit.

They're definitely different. The loops are just a quick way to tell them apart. After the collector they are different. The full system one is straight, because the Excell silencer's inlet and outlet are directly across from each other. While the stand alone header has a offset bend, because the stock and aftermarket silencers inlet and outlets are offset.

would you look at that!! I never thought about the offset for the stock muffler. My bad... It was early in the morning!!

Either way, I like my full Excell system.

Can you modify the one for the full system to work with a stock exhaust? or is it a waste of time?

I guess if you are good at cutting, welding, and altering the tube, is can be done. I personally wouldn't screw around with changing it.

I think an easier way would be to get a straight through silencer and adapt it to mount to the sled.
