What does it smell like when the exhaust donuts are bad. I can't hear or see them tattle but when I run the sled on the stand it looks to be steaming a lot. How I found it is kinda a long story. The sled was overheating a lot this season so I ordered the mountain tech cooler and today I was running the sled before I change the oil and then put the cooler on when I noticed it smoking/steaming a lot. Thinking it was coolant I witches looked to be steaming g from under the heat shield I took the sled apart and hooked the tank up off to the side to run it again. With out the heat shield on it seems to steam/smoke a lot less. My thought is it can get out faster. I see no green and it doesn't smell like pancakes and looks to be comming from the donut area. Just want to talk it through to be sure.

I do not think you would see steam from the donuts. Not unless there was a leak in your engine. Perhaps the insulation had some moisture in it and when you heated things up it was just drying out. If you have it tore down that far, I would at least go ahead and change the donuts. They will eventually wear out.

Start the engine, let it warm up then plug the exhaust outlet, if it still runs you have a leak somewhere, if it dies then you should be good.
My stock donuts were shot at 1500 miles, replaced them with copper donuts and they still look good 2800 miles later
