Need a little help. My wifes 2007 Apex blew out the donuts and cracked the titanium y pipe. Replaced the y pipe with stainless steel and copper donuts. It was fine for 200-300 miles, then on the last ride of the year it got loud again. I tore into it, and can find nothing. The y pipes and donuts are solid. Removed the skid and no holes anywhere. My last place to look is the flex pipes or exhaust gasket on the motor. Has anyone had a flex pipe blow a hole in it that you can't see or feel or had the exhaust gasket go bad? I'm selling the sled to a good friend of mine and don't want to sell it to him like it is. I bought the wife a 2011 Apex with 1,000 miles on it.

Check the flex pipes to see if they cracked, they could of been weak from the loss of the donuts from before and cracked just from riding.

It is possible that the 2 into 1 transition pipe going into the exhaust muffler can has cracked welds or has blown a hole in it, I've had this happen on an 06 and 08 Apex. You may need to remove the seat and muffler shroud to see the top of the pipe which is where mine both went. Another place to look anyway, good luck.

Make sure you check the rivits under the gas tank while you have it apart.

I've had 2 different flex pipes crack in 18,000 miles, could not see a crack either time with them out of the sled in my hand. The first time it happened I didn't even know I had a problem. I 'm not sure why but as long as I had them out I decided to cover one end of the pipe with my hand and blow into the other end, found a crack real quick. They should be air tight.

OK, that sounds good I will try that when I get home.

if you hold them in your hand, and bend them a little then roll them and look close you will see. One of mine was broken 2/3 of the way around and had chuncks missing. I changes all four, and kept the two good ones for spares.

most commonly the 2 into 1 section of the silencer is where they break next i couldnt see it on mine till i had it out it was a big hole too but was on the top of the pipe. good news is that is ss and can be welded.I would check there before going thru all the work of the flex pipes yes they can fail just not as common.

Had the same happen to me. Did a complete Donut job and after just 200 miles it got loud....it was the flex pipe. I had about 8k miles on it...If you were going to keep the machine and have high mileage I'd replace all flex pipes while your at it.

Still have not tore it down yet. I sold it to my buddy but agreed to tear it down one more time. I will look at the exhaust first, then the flex pipes. It's one of the two.
