I was zooming down the trail last night when a very strange and bad sound started coming from the machine (03 RX-1). After some panicing and swearing, I realized that 1 of the exhaust covers in the tunnel had come loose and the track with studs ripped it right off trapping it in there. Luckily, I wasn't far from home, buddy went and got the truck and we got it back to the garage. After dropping the suspension, I was able to reach in and pull the mangled piece out. Went out again for a quick rip and everything was fine. Question is, does this piece need to be replaced or is it fine without it? Anyone had this happen to them? Luckily, I didn't get through and damage the rad and I didn't see too much damage to the track either. Close one!!

Take them all off. Yamaha sent out a tech bulletin to remove them. As eventually they will loosen and usualyy just rattle or in your case fall off.

Damn!! I had it all apart last night and left all the existing ones on!!!! Next time I have it apart I will remove the rest.
