A friend of mine has an 05 RX-1 and last weekend his muffler got red hot and melted his seat, burned a hole in the muffler heat shield, melted the exhaust side covers and the piece around the taillight. When this happened the gauges had quit working and I think he said the only thing that was still working was the high beam indicator. He replaced everything and took it out tonight and it did the same thing with the lights again. He shut it off and went to start it again and it acted like the battery was dead so he had someone tow him home. When he got home he tried it again and it fired right up and the battery seemed fine. Does anyone know what could be causing all of this?

Sounds like some cylinders are running too lean. Check the intake (boots) for leaks..

It was the wires at the rectifier.
