ExpertX shock recalibrating (DIY)

I am still looking and I am still hopeful that I'll find it. I had forgetten that you are in Canada, I had just assumed that you wre from the US and didn't look at your location text. Hang tight.

the rebound on the expert needs to be stiffened up alot. This helps the kick. The compression valve stack also needs help. We have found the stock stack is linear and a progressive stack makes for a better ride and not as much bottoming out. I will check our notes and dyno sheets. My brother had on in a 04 rev. We got it alot better, but he gave up and bought a 07 rev. I will give the rebound stack, but my compression stack involves drill the valve shims which is a royal pain in the butt and its hard to explain, but its a progressive stack.

Bilingual brains at AD Boivin!

Hi LazyBastard,

I've read only one (1) of your 3943 posts, and it goes like this :

Jack_Shaft:
Have you EVER been able to get through to someone with a BRAIN at adboivin? They make a good skid, but their customer service blows. I'll try to talk to them, but I already know... the person who answers the phone will say she doesn't know, and will transfer me to a tech, who will also say he doesn't know - and will also say he'll find out and call back, and he will NEVER call back.
... know where online I can find a skidoo racing catalog?

We, at AD Boivin, invite you to contact us again and we will try to get you Denis Boivin's brain just for you. You can also send us an e-mail at info@adboivin.com.

Maybe you will then get less readers than in this forum but if we can help directly, please contact.

Have a good 06-07 season.

LOL. I might be contacting you later this week or early next week.

LB, here are the two set-ups I worked with and found them to be pretty good. The LHS column has the stock values in it, the RHS has the "Improved" values in it. The Improved values were used for trail riding and really helped to reduce kickback. Not sure if that will work for you or not since you're looking for a more aggressive damping set-up, but perhaps it's a start.

The P/N's come from the 2004 Ski-doo racing manual (C-36 shock) and may be correct, but I am not 100% sure. Since the Expert X shocks are based on a 1996 era shock, the shock shaft diameter may be different. Perhaps you could order a few shims and investigate.

I'm following this thread with a great deal of interest. Seems like an never-ending quest for compliance in the stutters without big bump bottoming. Maybe 2 stacked springs? Is air the answer?

Are these shocks different from Yammie KYB's? Or might those shims work?

I've recharged Yammie KYB's, but they had the old schrader valves.

R L Yamaha in Verner revalved shocks for me in the past and they referred to 'High speed' and 'low speed' shims for tuning stutters or big honkin' bumps.

Please keep us informed of your progress.

This file was updated 19-Sep-06, be sure to discard any copy of this file downloaded before this date since there was an error in the compression damping set-up.
